Cowart's Common Room
Worst film ever?

OK, now I'm really REALLY bored and nobody is talking!!!!

Soooo, apologies for gumming up the common room with my nonsense but really, anything to get some dialogue going here....
What is the very worst film you have ever seen? One that made you feel positively nauseous?

I would like to nominate AI - the Spielberg one that was akin to a paeon to child abuse....
Adrian reckons Bitter Moon by Polanski 'rubbish' he says (y ou can tell he's a critic, can't you?!)

Re:
Tattie Weasle's Avatar League of Gentlemen with Sean Connery - quite quite appalling...AI I found too horrid to watch properly but it had a sort of car crash quality about it so I kept flicking backwards to it...I should have really gone to bed!

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar Oh no, I rather liked that in a sort of bonkers way! But then am not known for my taste.

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Um - Piranha . . . especially now I have Cyd and Ingmar Berman thingy - gawd can't spell - all his films were tedious and boring and in later life he said so himself.

Happy Feet - yup really hated it . . .

What do you mean I can have only one . . .snarls . . .re3vs chainsaw

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Yup I hated A1 too oh and Centinium Man - started out ok - but not for long and I am a huge Robin Williams fan

Posted by: Westerwitch on 9th Apr 2008 at 07:38PM

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar Yup, Happy Feet was REALLY irritating....yeeeuch. Never saw Piranha, thankfully!
Anyone ever see Night of the Lepus - with giant rabbits? But that was so bad it was considered good.

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar Eek, only seen the first one, Zoe - and yup, with you on that for sure. Though, hold on, rollerball rings vague bells.... probably so grim it's vanished from memory (for which gratitude).

Re:
Rambo 1 2 3 4 5 6 etc, Rocky 1 2 3 4 5 6 etc Terminator 1 2 3 4 5 , why do they subject us to it?

Posted by: ZoŽ on 9th Apr 2008 at 07:46PM

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar Never EVER watch anything with more than three parts....it's a golden rule. Three is fine (Godfather, Lord of Rings, er er er)....but four, five, twenty-two? Nope.
Liked first Terminator though.

Re:
Milla's Avatar worst ever, that STUPID zombie one everyone else loved with simon Pegg and (how could they!!!) Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton. Shaun of the Dead?? Utter prap

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar Bill Nighy. Sigh.

shaun of the dead had me in fits, it was funny, hot fuzz too

Re:
Preseli Mags's Avatar I LOVE Happy Feet! We are talking the penguin one now, with Nicole Kidman and the little hobbit chappie as the eponymous hero? But then again I'm just a big kid.

One I loathed and had to turn off was A Cock and Bull Story about the Tristram Shandy thing. Utter prap.

Bill Nighy though - *swoon* - lovely even when covered in tentacles in the Pirates things. Which I love and I know I shouldn't, and everyone after me on this is going to try and convince me how rubbish they are. There must be someone else out there who likes them? No?

I saw Hot Fuzz last week and laughed my socks off.

Re:
Pipany's Avatar What was that awful one with George Clooney (who I love as he is so funny sometimes)? Bl**dy terrible film that became a 'cult' hit? Space thingy....Confused

Posted by: Pipany on 9th Apr 2008 at 08:06PM

Re:
I agree, Bill Nighy, sigh. Had to watch it just to see him. I liked the pirate things too!

Worst film? Hmmm, well, do not get out much anymore but do watch them when they come onto tv.

The Big Lebowski, maybe. Hubby bowls and wanted to watch this one but it was so slow I had to give up.

Re:
Milla's Avatar non non no (actually both those nons were meant to be no but I type too fast), shaun of the dead A-Bloody-Ppalling!!!!!!! Zoe!!!! But, sorry, PM, against all expectation I quite enjoyed that Cock and Bull thing ... Expected to dread it, obv, with Alan Partridge man gurning all over the place, but quite good in the end AND ... an unfilmable book - v modern, non (a real non this time), despite its age, with all those blacked out pages etc

Re:
Elizabethm's Avatar Hated Shaun of the Dead too and all the Rocky films, plus Dumb and Dumber. also not very keen on anything with Jim Carrey in it although daughter no 1 tells me that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was good but, owing to my prejudice I have failed to see it.

Posted by: Elizabethm on 9th Apr 2008 at 08:41PM

Re:
Milla's Avatar ESof the SM was FANTASTIC - really worth seeing, Em, no gurning or idiocy or silly bits in lifts which seem to inform (important critic type word) most of his work (ditto word). Even Kate W is gorgeous and not irritating, and that despite a blue hair moment.

Re:
Did you see that? Milla and all those exclamation marks? I think it must be an imposter!Shocked

Re:
Faith's Avatar Roller Ball? Yes, think I fell asleep in that! In my life have fallen asleep in 3 films

1. Roller Ball
2. Star Wars
3. Some awful Rugrats thing I took the kids to.

I pretty well don't go and see films I don't think I'm going to like.

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar To boldly go (where no man has gone before).....is the classic.
The 'rule' is that the infinite, ie to run, to walk, to blog, to google should never EVER be split (ie have another word in the middle)....yet nearly the entire world bungs in an adverb or two...
to rashly blog, for eg.

Re:
Milla's Avatar to bossily harrangue?
It tends to be used particularly with thigns like "to really want" or "to particularly hate" or whatever. It's purely a product of my education. When you are taught by vicious trouts clamped into hairy tweed, what chance do you have?

Re:
Preseli Mags's Avatar Oh I see! Idea Thank you Jane and Milla for improving my grammar.

I was taught by pot-smoking hippies in hand-knitted hessian slacks. The alternative was the convent - vicious trouts clamped into habits. I think I got off lightly.
