Cowart's Common Room
Christening Day and all is in ready.............???

Today is my grandson's Christening Day. Because his mother is in the Navy, he's to be Christened aboard on of Her Majesty's Canadian Ships, in the ship's bell. I've never been to such a Christening, and am looking forward to all the tradition of the ceremony.
The Great Dane and I are hosting lunch here for 20 after the ceremony, and I think I'll be ready (what am I doing on this site when I have so much to do??) Meat is roasted, desserts sliced, the parts of the Christening Cake that didn't collapse out of the pan are disguised with icing and resting nobly on the sideboard. The balloons have been blown up by yours truly to be hung at the end of the drive so that the townies (already traumatized at having to drive out here) will find the house. The ducklings are in the downstairs WC (yes, you read right - we, of course, had to pick up ducklings yesterday, no other day would do, and it is freezing out) and the Tibetan Prayer Flags have been carefully hung where anyone visiting the house can see them fluttering (weirdly) from the cedars around the pond. These are not my idea of appropriate Pacific Northwest garden ornamentation, but they were a gift from Lillypad's boyfriend who has just returned from a trip and thought they'd be the ideal gift. I got out in time yesterday to stop them from hanging the flags as bunting on the gazebo. The wind is whistling in through the unfinished addition and I am as calm as a person on mood-altering drugs!
So, if you have time today, raise a glass to wee Declan, who is too big to fit into the family christening gown, and who may be in denim overalls, and to his grandparents who love him and his mummy and daddy dearly!

Re:
Ivy's Avatar May he have a long and happy life. Sounds lovely your description of the ship christening. Hope your weather is better than ours. Am getting seriously worried as it is my daughter's confirmation next week and it's freezing and the two of us have silk dresses for the occasion and our house is far too small if not at least half of the guests can sit outside in the sun.

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar What a memorable ceremony it's going to be and quite a priviledge too.

Glass raised as we speak (or type). Long life and much happiness to young Declan and his family. x

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar My glass will be raised shortly Pondside. It seems to be not unusual for babies to be too big for the family christening gown these days - parents wait longer for the ceremony or larger young babies? The former, I think.

Re:
Bayou's Avatar You can be sure that I'll raise my glass as well and congratulations for the guest's (or is it even future son in law?) gift! We need a picture of the unusual bunting, as well, please.
