Cowart's Common Room
We have babies!

As well as the river, we have a little stream and my neighbours' house is right on it. A pair of ducks nest there every year, and today mum had brought out her babies and I managed to get some photos.

Ivy's Avatar My granny used to live on a river and every year she had the ducks coming to her terrace to show her the babies and get some food. These pictures bring back lively childhood memories.

Westerwitch's Avatar Eeeeeek how fabulous is that. No sign here of course - just as well with snow forecast for the weekend. I have seen our first lambs - which is not good with the weather about to turn.

I adore ducklings, have a video somewhere of 16 of them swimming around in a sunk flower pot by my front door when the kids were small. We are forever fishing them out of the storm drains , as they are so wee they fall through the grates Confused

Unpeuloufoque's Avatar Oh you are lu8cky Faith how wonderful. My great aunt lived on a mill stream and I used to watch the ducks who nested on her island when I was a small child. She swore mother and father duck would have same conversation every year ie " Oh look dear there goes another one" as duckling after duckling dissapeared over the wier never to be see again!!I do hope your ducks are far more sensible than that but I am sure you will keep a weather eye on them. Look forward to postings of more photos of them as they grow.

Mountainear's Avatar Lovely, Faith. Definitely got the 'awww' factoer.

Faith's Avatar Well UPL they are not really my ducklings, or even my neighbour's. She says they hatched 12 last year and reared 9, which is good. But I said to her today I don't want to come here every day and you say 'Oh there's only x left now' and so on. I can't cope with it. Showed my photos to Hub3 and he said 'The mink'll get 'em'. Lovely, my husbandSad

This is my neighbour's homeUploaded Image

The bridge goes over the stream where the ducklings live.

Frances's Avatar Love the ducklings having their swimming lessons, and that last photo, Faith, just makes me realize how long it has been since I have seen that sort of brick, that sort of silhouette, that sort of roof. Thank you!
