Cowart's Common Room
Dash

Hey everyone! It seems ages since I last posted. My husband and girls took the computer when they went to California--I stayed behind to nurse Dash through the crisis. I tried using my son's computer, but it wouldn't let me log in. So...here's an update on Dash.

He spent about 6 days in what I would term intensive care in my wool processing barn where it's warmish. He got 500 units of fluids, antibiotics and B vitamins everyday through a catheter in his jugular vein. He didn't eat for the first 3 days, so I was forcing drench of vitamins and minerals down his throat three times a day. His legs were so weak that he couldn't get up on his own, and so he wet himself every night until I got out to lift him up. I really thought we would lose him on Christmas Eve, but he made it and has gotten better every day since then. I couldn't give him his fluids the last two days because he wouldn't hold still for long enough.

Today, he's back out in the barn with no restrictions and is wearing his little blanket to help him regulate his body temperature. He lost an enormous amount of weight and keeping him warm is my main concern, but he eats and drink better and is much more active around the rest of the herd, so he remains happily outside. He's a true miracle to me. How he pulled through kidney failure is an amazing thing to me. My vet is truly amazed and impressed with the outcome. He had a taxidermist lined up for me so we could make the most of a bad situation, but thankfully, Dash is eating everything he can find and trudging through the snow just like everyone else. What a turn around in a very short time! Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts. You're all rock stars!!

The very best wishes for an excellent New Year to all of us!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Oh poor Dash, he has been so poorly. Wishing and praying that Dash gets more stronger day by day. You have been an Angel Woolyworks, to nurse and care for him, I fear he would not have survived without all your love and hard work in caring for him.

Wishing you all the best for the New Year Woolyworks, and so too to your family. Hoping that Dash continues to get stronger day by day. Let us know how all goes.

Love and Best Wishes,
Camilla.xx

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar that is Berludy brilliant Woolyworks . . . what a star you are for all the work you have done to save Dash's life - animals do seem to know when you are helping them and there is no doubt that support helps with the recovery. I suspect Dash will hold a special place in all our hearts now.

Love and hugs to you both
