Cowart's Common Room
3 Christmas traditions or little things I do

Morning everyone!

We all have traditions in our families, or we make them up to please our children and then have to do them every year or woe betide us for forgetting something. It's not Christmas if we don't do/have....... they plead! So what goes on in your family?

A few of ours are:

1. We always have a yummy surprise treat to eat after putting up the tree. This year it was iced Baileys in chocolate glasses.

2. We have a bauble that opens and we write a little message about what has happened in the year and put it inside when we take the decs down.... and read it next year when we put the decs up. We keep all the old messages in their and the bauble is stuffed full!

3. We always have crackers at Christmas breakfast, as well as at lunch and tea! This started because for so many years I was always, with my family, at my parents house for lunch and tea and Mummy bought the crackers and I like crackers and wanted to choose them myself.

Over to you .....

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Wildchild always makes mince pies for us over Xmas and indeed on my birthday and she makes the most amazing pastry.

Wildchild also does the starter of smoked salmon on Xmas day.

Um I always eat sprouts on Xmas day and we all regret it afterwards . . .Embarassed

Re:
Preseli Mags's Avatar We're still making our family traditions as the children are still so young...

The main one is that we don't have breakfast, lunch and dinner on Christmas day, we have starter, main course and pudding, spread out over the whole day.

Santa MUST put an orange and some chocolate coins in the sack of presents. Heaven help him if he forgets.

We always make up a tray of goodies for Santa. Hannah and Rosie choose. Last year it was a big glass of Marsala and a mince pie for Santa and an apple and a carrot for Rudolph. One year Rudolph only took a bite or two out of the carrot and there were tears when Hannah found out. He's not supposed to leave anything, not even the apple core or the stalk end of the carrot!

try to put a tsp of natrium bicarbonate into the cooking water that really helps with the unpleasant effects sprouts and other cabages have. Cooking time may be rechecked though as delicate sprouts might be ready earlier than you think.[/quote]

Exmoorjane's Avatar James is allowed to open one present on Christmas Eve.
Stockings (with teeny gifts) are opened in bed - 'tree' presents wait until after breakfast.
We have the one and only liqueur coffee of the year while opening presents - a real cheesy throw-back to the seventies!
