Cowart's Common Room
Aaarrrggghhhh!

Oh my goodness I won't forget this year's build-up to Christmas in a hurry. As you may remember I have started working from home - at least that was the idea, until BT, in their wisdom, decided to disconnect my broadband on Friday and freeze my email account. Naturally, Friday was when I had to get an assignment in to my brand-new client. Totally their fault, and it's also cost me about 6 hours worth of phone calls over the weekend, but the long and short of it is that I won't be reconnected at home until Friday. So this week's looking great, with me trawling the kids round internet cafes as I try to keep in touch with the world and get my shoping done too. For some reason my network card won't work at any of my friend's houses who have wireless either. So I'm practising lots of deep breathing and will back with you all in a calmer, more festive frame of mind at the end of the week. I'm getting black looks from the staff at Cafe Nero now as I'm nursing a cup of tea, so had better order another and get on with my work.

Before I go - Pipany I hope you see this - thank you SO MUCH for my order which arrived on Friday - such lovely products and so beautifully presented - you are a total star. I couldn't email you to thank you. At least I can rely on my purple friends!

And lastly - I'll whisper this - I don't know if any of you still get CL - I read it from time to time in the shops! - if you do, then one of my dear friends did the illustrations for the extact from Susan Hill's novel which is featured this month.

Have a lovely week everyone - at least a better week than I'm having.
xx

Re:
Suffolkmum's Avatar Milla - ours break up Wenesday - but littlest has a cold and was sent home on Friday - to cap one of the worst days of my life - so she's now being trawled round town with me. You're so right - working is a very bad idea!

Re:
Elizabethm's Avatar Oh you poor thing. Sounds a total nightmare. Sure it will settle down post christmas and at least if you have had a baptism of fire you won't go round with unrealistic notions of how straightforward it all is! I do get cl as on a gift subscription and actually really liked this issue. The susan hill extract was fabulous and so were the illustrations. Your friend is very talented!
Hope things look up on the BT front.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar But you won didn't you? Clever you! You succeeded against everything that BT and the rest of the world could throw at you. And littlest has had an interesting experience. And I'm willing to bet your work for your new client will have been stellar. So, you've coped. Well done you. But then that's the sort of person you are. So have a big prize hug.

Re:
Pipany's Avatar Oh you poor thing (but sooo relieved to read this as I was terrified that either the things hadn't arrived or, worse still, that they were not what you were hoping!!!!! captain Paranoia rules again!). Hope you can get the broadband sorted and keep going with the work - you are a star and deserve a bloomin' medal! xxx

Re:
Cait's Avatar I am sorry SM, wish I could be of help but am too far away. Have you tried using your local library computers?

Make sure you get your compensation money from BT. Do they know you are a business, they prioritise on those, well they say they do.

Mind you BT is also a dirty word with me as my library has been without phone or any internet connection for a week now! Half the town and a nearby village are all down.

Hope you manage to do all you want to,
Caitx

Re:
LittleBrownDog's Avatar What rotten luck, SM - typical of things to go pear-shaped the week before Christmas. Still, it sounds as though you're coping manfully - fingers crossed that BT sorts it out sharpish (and, yes, Cait's right - they should reimburse you for your time without broadband. They did when it happened to me, and were actually pretty good when I managed to get past the nice man in Bangalore who kept telling me to unplug my computer and plug it in again about 16 times...)

Good luck with it all, and well done for getting the work.

Re:
It is just bloomin typical-poor you!
Gosh, sounds like you have it all on your plate at moment.
We are sorry you are working too...if it's any consolation, we miss you.

For once, I am ashamed to say I am quite pleased mine don't break up until Friday-Still haven't wrapped a present or written a card! So a few days until the madness really begins is most welcome.

Now take care of yourself and little one and hope everything gets sorted out with BT soon.

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar Much sympathy on the BT front - although apart from almost losing the will to live while talking to India the engineers in this country actually come up trumps, done the business etc etc. Whoopeee! It's just that getting there i such a painful process. Don't give up and learn to love cyber cafes and libraries in the meantime.

I'm sure your assignment will go down well. The next one is bound to be a piece of cake after this!

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Berludy BT - we need a big collective poke in the eye to BT.

Thank you so much SM for taking the time and the trouble to pop in and see us - hope things calm down over Xmas and we see more of you then.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Oh poor you SM, that must be so infuriatating for you, especially when you have business. That BT has got a very bad name for itself, I hear lots of people say that they have experienced just the same.

Take care of yourself SM and your little one, hope things will go according to plan soon for you.
