Cowart's Common Room
The morning after

No, I haven't got a hangover. Not a drop of alchohol touched my lips! I'm afraid it wasn't the best birthday ever but not to worry, hopefully I'll have many more. Amy's school play went okay. I mean, just okay. Amy had a part of a princess and said one line and was on stage for the maximum of 1 minute. I got a bit frustrated about it all because as usual the same kids got the big parts and little Amy was hardly noticed. But I was annoyed with the farmer because he didn't want to go and make the effort and he stayed at home. He didn't miss much but that wasn't the point. So I ended up giving him a piece of my mind, sitting through the play with a sour face and leaving half my Chinese meal afterwards, sat in the lounge on my own while the farmer entertained Amy.

Oh well, another day dawns and I have Christmas and Amy's birthday to look forward to. PMT is such a bleeping nuisance!!!

I just want to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you for all the birthday wishes and to Cait and Camilla for the beautiful pictures.
WW - I hope you enjoyed your special night with your friends.

Love Crystal xx

Pipany's Avatar Hmm, know what you mean about those 1 minute appearances Crystal - always the same flipping kids. So unfair and the mark of a bad teacher in my book. Sorry the day wasn't better but perhaps today will bring lovely things instead xx

Faith's Avatar I've had times like that too Crystal. I don't understand your husband not going, but maybe he was tired. I hope Amy enjoyed doing her little part though.

Chin up!

Fennie's Avatar That's life - isn't it? Bad times and good times. Have a hug, Crystal. No doubt the sun will shine brighter today. Hope so! Sad it was your birthday though. I always used to hate my birthday and get horribly depressed when I was younger. Fxx

But I was always on stage! As the tallest person I got lumbered with being Angel Gabriel. So standing the entire time with my arms up behind that pretty little blonde Mary.

And I'm not that tall!

Cait's Avatar I always dread birthdays, you will understand why if you have read my letter to my 13 year old self.
I've had days like that too (and husband behaviour!)but they pass like everything else does. PMT was the bane of my life once, the menopause is heaven! As for teachers and schools, don't get me started, but they are not all the same, there are some gems amongst them. Does Amy's school have two sets of main play characters? I notice that my girls' primary school does, one stars one night and one the next. Good idea.

Woolyworks's Avatar I so sorry Crystal. I've been the on the teacher side of things and I apologize to you and Amy on behalf of teachers in general. It's wrong to make the same children the stars time and time again, when they all have something wonderful to offer. How easy it is to focus on the production, rather than on the children. It sounds like the teacher forgot her priorities, never really had proper perspective in the first place, or took the path of least resistance. Happily, though, Amy will probably not remember it as much as you will. I'm so sorry for your feelings and hope that you'll be able to forgive and/or forget as quickly as Amy will. As for the husband, well, do you think he probably knew what was coming and couldn't sit through it again?

Milla's Avatar You mustn't worry, CJ! 1 minute sounds quite long enough, particularly if Amy is shy. Being on stage sounds absolutely terrifying and I'm sure that being part of the general excitement is thrill enough for most children, and at least you didn't have the mortification of worrying for her forgetting her lines, or freezing or taking against it or panicking or something. Being backstage and dressing up all pretty and doing something different rather than run of the mill stuff is all fun to them and possibly the school don't want to put the shier (word??) children under undue stress and scar them for life by exposing them to something they wouldn't be comfortable with. Sorry - this isn't meant to sound glib, but trying to put a good face on it. The high point of my theatrical career came at 4 as Mary. No lines at all but a lot of shy smiling and gripping a toy doll for all my life. What can beat that?

Sorry to hear your birthday wasnt the greatest. And as for school plays, i find the same thing happends even in a school for just autistic kids.
Good on Amy for getting up there and giving it a go!
And yes, christmas next! Confused

Crystal Jigsaw's Avatar Arh, thanks for all your kind comments. I feel a lot better today but knackered!! I have forgotten the school play, it wasn't that good really and I suppose husband was wise. He knows he upset me and was quite happy to make up Wink
The play is long forgotten as far as Amy is concerned too! I suppose when you look at it like that, Milla, 1 minute is a long time to stand in front of a hall full of gaping adults and crying kids!!
Thanks again.

Milkmaid's Avatar Poor Crystal, I've given up, expecting my own lovely farmer to attend school plays etc, so on the very odd occasion he does it's a real treat, I'm sure that everyone thought I was a single parent at school for about 3 years until he put in an appearance
