Cowart's Common Room
24 hours away

I'm back from 24 hours travel to the UK, for the funeral of my closest friend's husband. I think the ferry rolled itself sideways across the water from Roscoff to Plymouth...the crossing was too awful to believe. I lay prone in my cabin, moaning gently till we arrived.
The funeral was totally heartrending, as you might imagine. Travel back was marginally better, bigger boat with stabilisers, which always makes me think of a tricycle. I hear that Brittany ferries have cancelled all sailings this weekend.
So, home again now, sad, but glad I went.

Re:
Toady's Avatar Poor Elizabeth,
Was it the Pont Aven? The year before last we travelled on the day before the big one that took out all the glass on deck 4 and that was bad enough. Give yourself a couple of quiet days to settle down again.

Re:
Faith's Avatar Oh how grim, poor you. But I'm sure your friend found comfort in your presence. Don't mention ferries, the last time I was on one I spent the whole time hugging the loo, almost oblivious to the fact that it wasnt at all pristine. I wont go into details. Thank goodness you are home before worse weather.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar I hate ferries too, especially in the wind. So - tons of sympathy.

Re:
And it would have to be now that the weather was bad. Glad you are safely home. I hate rough seas so now take the shortest crossing possible.

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Well that was an experience if not the best of journeys travelling there. Glad you were able to go and say goodbye - always feel it is the start of the grieving process proper and in time the healing process.
