Cowart's Common Room
Not a good week at all

Sorry I have been AWOL. SZ Mother went down with an infection and was bedridden and needing pretty much 24/7 care so I had to ship over there. Not helped by fact that Adrian away for most of the week and I had several deadlines. Too long and dreary and ghastly to mention really but had to laugh when finally got home this morning, sat at desk to work like fury and felt something dripping on my head. Got up on desk and poked ceiling (as you do) and got totally drenched. Managed to move desk and computer and so on before the whole thing collapsed. Then spent hours re-arranging furniture to get working again in another room. Then Internet wouldn't work.
So, anyhow, a long-winded post to explain absence......Sorry if I've missed anything important or exciting or awful (please update me!).

PS - however, amazingly Asbo has been a total angel!

Pipany's Avatar Oh blimey Jane; what a ghastly week. Poor you - that roof falling in would have been the final straw for me. Will drink much mulled wine in sympathy tonight xx

Milla's Avatar *loody hell, Jane, POOR YOU. You are having such a horrid time at the moment - but clearly your guardian angel needs to keep you busy. Life couldn't just become simpler once you'd offloaded your old house, something else had to sashay in to fill the vacuum. DO hope things improve for you, and also hope that SZM realises how lucky she is to have you.

Poor Jane!
What a week. So sorry to hear about all that, especially your Mother and I do hope she is feeling better now.

Maybe Asbo sensed that you needed him to behave!!

Take good care and big hug to you m' dear.

Exmoorjane's Avatar Thanks y'all..... out into the wind and rain now (isn't it FOUL today?) to take over food parcels! So, knowing my luck, the firemen will come when I'm away......Sad

Preseli Mags's Avatar Good old Asbo, see, there's a good dog hiding inside there somewhere! Sorry to hear you've had such a horrid time. I hope things pick up soon. xxPM
PS: Firemen? Not on fire too?!

Elizabethm's Avatar Oh you poor thing! Surely it can only get better (said with fingers and toes crossed). Hope your mother is improving and appreciating you, if she isnt, we are.
Fancy Asbo being your silver lining!

Lampworkbeader's Avatar Sorry to hear about your troubles. Fingers crossed that things are getting better and big hugs.

Posted by: Lampworkbeader on 6th Dec 2007 at 04:28PM

Ivy's Avatar Oh I guessed there was something wrong as you were never online but I wouldn't have thought that it was THAT bad. What made the water come in burst pipe or a hole in the roof? Lucky the whole thing didn't collapse onto the computer while you were away.... Evil or Very Mad Hope you find some time to relax and recharge your batteries.

Unpeuloufoque's Avatar Oh dear quelle bummer! I wonder if you are the same star sign as poor old Preslimags she has had a rotten week too!! Most impressed with asbo, have you looked at him closley lately, someone hasnt swopped him have they?Very Happy

Mootia's Avatar Well, every cloud has a silver lining (re Asbo!)...sorry to hear about your week - blimey, it doesn't half come in buckets when things go wrong with you...and I was only thinking at lunchtime that I hadn't see you around for a while. Take care of yourself. x

Posted by: Mootia on 6th Dec 2007 at 05:01PM

ChrisH's Avatar I can't think of any silver linings about your week - Asbo is probably far too intelligent to risk life and limb p*ssing you off any further. I'm sorry to hear that so many rotten things have happened at once, as UPL says, Presili Mags has had a fairly foul week too - not that that's any consolation to either of you. If there is any justice you should get your big fat publishing deal any day.
Hope SZM recovers soon.

Mountainear's Avatar Can't get any worse - so it's just got to get better surely. Chin up.

Blossomcottage's Avatar The sun ( if it was out) is past the yard arm go and have a stiff G and T glad you are back though.

oh god jane poor you. mind you read your post as 'moved computer and SON' worried for a moment about your priorities.. but it was me.
good luck - is she ok now?

Faith's Avatar Purple hugs Jane!

Exmoorjane's Avatar Thanks just pretty grim all round and no respite in sight really. Firemen are builders too! they came and looked at it and made nice noises... Our river is very high here too....the firemen were a bit concerned as all it takes is a tree to come down upriver and block the bridge and Dulverton will get flooding problems. Funny, isn't it, how we want rain but not THAT much rain that quickly. Heard Wales was getting it big time.
Ah, Blossom, yard arm was reached and a HUGE brandy mac was poured. Followed by Dave, a lovely chap from Newcastle, introducing me to the delights of Guinness and Tia Maria! Now on the Rioja. This HAS to be my night off! All hell will break loose tomorrow no doubt.
Poor PM - is it all on her blog?

Posted by: Exmoorjane on 6th Dec 2007 at 08:37PM

Suffolkmum's Avatar Poor you Jane - I was wondering where you were but haven't been on here much myself so thought I was just missing you. Hope SZM is better (and grateful). It acn only get better. Enjoy your night!

Preseli Mags's Avatar Mine were minor niggles as follows:
Corpses - 5 (three ducks, one ewe, one telephone/answering machine).
Leak - 1 (goodbye new bathroom floor and horrid utility room carpet).
I had a good whinge on here. Saw the funny side. Drank whiskey. Everything's fine now. Very Happy

Withy Brook's Avatar I'm sure Asbo knew that things were bad for you. I think that chrish is a pessimist and not giving credit where credit is due!
Sorry to hear you do not yet see the light at the end of this lot of s..t. Hope it will improve soon.

Posted by: Withy Brook on 6th Dec 2007 at 10:23PM

Snailbeachshepherdess's Avatar Doy you think ASBO was just plain terrified or wot? Bless him! Hope everything gets sorted soon.

Camilla's Avatar Oh Jane how absolutely ghastly for you, very large Brandy is needed for you. That ceiling could have knocked you out, sooo pleased you are safe.

Sorry to hear about your Mother, a very anxious state of mind for you. Hope your Mother will soon be feeling much better.Oh Asbo Jack, such a darling... he must have sensed you were worrying. I was wondering where you were Jane, thought you might be catching up with your writing, lovely to see you back again.

Frances's Avatar Jane, I will make no attempt at cleverness here, because I only want to let you know that I am soooo sympathetic.

Will send another message later, maybe tomorrow.
Meanwhile, praying for drying outside and inside your part of Dulverton.

xxx ooo
