Cowart's Common Room
Wet Lark, occluded by mist

I feel sorry for the men who collect the rubbish and recycling. First they have to start work at the crack of dawn, winter and summer, and then they have to work in our extremes of climate: now baking heat, now oppressive drizzle.

Yesterday it rained more or less all day, except it wasn't really rain being almost ethereal in its lack of body. It makes everything wet and it blows into every crevice. How the dustmen keep body and soul together I do not know.

I trudged up to the Tump and looked out forlornly across the Bristol Channel. On a fine day you can see the cars moving on the Exmoor hills. On a not so fine day you can nevertheless make out the cliffs around Porlock and Minehead, but if it isn't fine at all you have a struggle to make out the opposite coast at all. Yesterday I couldn't even make out the Welsh coast, let alone the English coast. Visibility, even from the top of the Tump was no more than a couple of miles, if that.

The same sort of rain continues this morning, the damp still drizzle of autumn. Meanwhile our greengage tree is overburdened with plums, swelling at last and beginning to turn a blushing shade of yellow. But too many have blushed mauve instead and are rotting on the tree - a terrible waste. Picture shows the semi-tropical paradise that is Minehead, if only you could see it. Very HappyVery Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Scaffies (as they would be known here) and Posties both have a thankless job in the extremes of the British weather. I've done one but wouldn't thank you for the other - at least the mail doesn't normally stink!
Pale grey here and a touch of autumn creeping in on the tree across from out bedroom this morning, the berries are turning noticeably red too and plenty of them but it is still warm enough to have the Studio door open. I feel very claustrophobic for the first few times we have to shut it each autumn.

Camilla's Avatar What an amazing view Fennie it does look like a semi tropical scene.

I used to get very hot in my nurses uniform but never experienced quite such a hot summer as we are having at the moment.

Don't mind the autumn when it arrives will be interesting to learn if we wil have another cold winter like last year.
