I Can't Sleep Chat Posr

Hello Owls and Larks,

Put the heating on yesterday afternoon for a short while, quite a cold damp wet day. Hoping the sun will appear today and the rains clear off.

Enjoyed watching the new series of Cold Feet last night, still love it.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.Very Happy

If you can't sleep and here are others on line then have a natter here.

Fennie's Avatar Ah you were late Camilla, but had you hung on a bit you might have caught me awaking from the land of nod as I have been around 3 am this past week to toss and turn and eat a digestive biscuit and to bewail my insomnia and to sit upright and cross legged inn a dressing gown for a couple of hours chanting buddhist chants until eventually sleep returns. But I then slept well enough until eight, which was rather late. It isn't a very obedient this body of mine and sometimes I think I share my corpus with a lunatic, a raging child that behaves in a silly and unpredictable and counterproductive manner. Of course with lack of sleep the Black Dog comes visiting and the lunatic takes the BD for a walk. He's still here this morning and so I must take a St John's Wort tablet to help him go away for I have much cleaning and tidying work to do today as well as ferrying J to the shops (again for she went yesterday) and another concert tonight. I should be getting dressed and not writing nonsense. But have a good day everyone.Very HappyVery Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar It's perfectly normal to wake up in the wee small hours Fennie, it's only becomes a problem if you worry about being awake.
Our natural sleep patterns allow for 90 minutes then an awakening so if one goes to bed around midnight it's perfectly normal to stir around 3am and then sometime around 5am depending on how long you are awake for the first time.

My Dad suffered from insomnia (and depression) his Doc's answer to it was...
*An oat biscuit or half a banana just before going to bed
*When you wake up in the night (not if because waking is normal) don't get up unless you need to pee.
*If you need to pee use a very dim light to find your way, bright lights will wake you further.
*Turn the clock to face the wall you don't need to know the time and if you find the ticking annoying while you are lying awake get rid of it or put it outside the room... the alarm will still wake you if you need to go to work etc.
*Once awake but lying down Fantasise! Let your creative mind take over think about a lovely event or plan that new novel.
*If churning negative thoughts intrude keep bedtime diary to get the out of your mind.

On the last point my Dad kept a kiddies slate beside the bed and used that before he went to bed then cleaned it in the morning as he didn't need to "keep" the unwanted thoughts.

My Mum started to practice the same routine and so do I, I quite enjoy my middle of the night creative sessions and fantasy lives. It's very relaxing once you get in to it.

Fennie's Avatar Thanks FN. Yes the middle of the night can be a creative time but only if the mind is working properly. Still I am better now and have been listening to Bach - always guaranteed to take you to another place. The Chaconne in D minor - wonderful.
Now I must have a coffee and get to work. We have guests tomorrow arriving for lunch and the house is a tip.

Very Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar You could do worse than a set of headphones and some Bach next to the bed. Very Happy
I rather like Gregorian chant for relaxing to as well.

Camilla's Avatar Late to the post today... Sorry to hear you had a rotten night Fennie actually me too. No sooner had I posted the owl post I settled down for the night and had problems sleeping sinuses playing up and all hot and stuffy, could not open the windows as raining. Did not get off to sleep until 3.30am and then woke up at 8am feeling worse for wear. I had actually slumbered on the sofa from 10pm until 1.30am not good as this messes up my sleep pattern but can't help falling off to sleep on sofa as obviously I needed the sleep.

Hope the BD has gone Fennie and you are feeling much better this evening, big hug.Very Happy

Camilla's Avatar Thanks for the tips on Insomnia FN brilliant I shall make a note of those and keep by me. Can't eat bananas as allergic to them as they cause me to have huge migraines can eat the oat bikkies though are digestive any good too? If not what make are they.

Always use a dim light if I need a wee in the middle of the night but I also sleep with 25 watt dim soft lightbulb as don't like the dark .

I have the BD at times too this only being because of my situation at home it sometime grinds me down .

I did read somewhere that being on the Internet at night might not help either with sleep I mean for long hours at a time . I also have though Classic FM on right through the night on my App on my iPad but I have it on so faint the volume just really as a comforter really.

Fennie's Avatar FN, headphones to listen to Bach would be wonderful. Maybe for my Christmas present list. Or maybe sooner. But how could I get the music to the headphones without setting up a computer or gramophone?

Posted by: Fennie on 10th Sep 2017 at 11:40AM

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Your mobile phone perhaps, or a little mp3 player to go with the headphones, they are not very expensive these days, I have one I use in the Studio sometimes with an earbud style headphone so I can walk around with it on.
