Cowart's Common Room
Afternoon Tea

Uploaded Image

The Cowbridge Music Festival begins this evening in Holy Cross Church with a concert by the King's Singers and then will continue on and off for the next two weeks with a remarkably eclectic mix of classical music and jazz. The Festival is getting a most excellent reputation and Nicola Benedetti is now our patron. Pity that you all live so far away. Pity also that we won't be here for the final concerts as we leave to fly to France on 21st September. We shall be away for two weeks and I have to contact the customers to advise them that we shan't be able to despatch anything from her although provided I can get email we can continue our broking service.

The sun is out now having replaced the rain of this morning. Hope everyone has a good evening. Hope the King's singers are in fine voice.

Meanwhile it is time for a cup of tea. I am trying to think of an animal that is associated with the afternoon: the ingale is associated with night or evening and the lark with morning. but what animal inhabits the afternoon - the Lounge Lizard perhaps?

The Tiger That Came For Tea.

Very Happy a lovely children's book written by the wonderful artist and writer Judith Kerr.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Mind you not sure I would love a real life Tiger to have a cup of tea with, I could do Mole or Ratty, or even Badger or Pooh but a Tiger....he would have to be very cuddly and not have sharp teeth.Very Happy

Has been raining here for most of the day and cold too very dark and dreary although the sun did try to peep through a few moments ago.

Re:
Lampworkbeader's Avatar Our village festival starts next weekend, although with Nicola Benedetti and the Kings Singers you sound somewhat grander then we are.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar There was once a Lady from Riga
Who went for a ride on a Tiga
They returned from the ride
With the Lady inside
And a smile on the face of the Tiga.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar I haven't heard of the Kings Singers in years, is it still mainly the same line up?
Val Doonigan's show comes to mind didn't they have a regular spot on there?

Re:
Fennie's Avatar I think they keep replacing the personnel, FN, a bit like the Cabinet or the Arsenal football team. There were six of them last night. If I am being philistine and curmudgeonly I would say thyey were worth hearing but not worth going to hear. They started with William Byrd and these were the best pieces. Not helped by sitting next to an American and his wife. She never opened her mouth throughout; he coughed regularly and loudly at each interval in the music and was generally large and obnoxious, purchasing a bottle of beer at the interval and drinking it (from the bottle) during the second half. At one stage he referred to the KS as a 'band' who liked to 'mix it up a bit.' Very Happy

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Don't know that one Camilla

There was once a Tiger from Battersea
Who lived with a seal on the Zuider Zee
The seal caught Alsatians
For all his relations
But the Tiger demanded a fricassée.

I am sure someone can improve on this.
