Cowart's Common Room
Dr Zhivago

Uploaded Image

Went to see Dr Zhivago this afternoon. I last saw it when it came out - 50 years ago. Lots of it I remembered as if yesterday. Other bits I had completely forgotten. Wonderful photography, though for obvious reasons I don't think any of it was actually filmed in Russia. Julie Christie is 75 now and Omar Sharif is 83 or would be if he hadn't died last July.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar I forgot to say that tickets for the film were only £3.00! Which seems the 2015 equivalent of 1/9d

Lampworkbeader's Avatar On glance at the picture and I'm humming the signature tune. A real ear worm.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar One of my favourite films, and yes wonderful photography I remember.

The film is based on the Boris Pasternak novel of the same name, immensely popular in the West, but banned in the Soviet Union. For this reason the film could not be made there and was instead filmed mostly in Spain. Some of the winter sequences were filmed in Finland and some other scenes filmed in Canada.

I believe that Omar Sharif's own son played the part of being the younger character of him in the film
