Cowart's Common Room

So far as I can tell we are all intact here - the picture dates from May 2012 - but something similar could be around any corner. The strong wind and rain - and shortly icy blasts and snow - will be with us for some time. The building in the picture is our library which is in our little central town park once the garden of a large house but it burnt down and was more or less never replaced. Parts of it have become a community college, other parts have been left ruined. They are nicely painted these ruins but stand like a set of jagged teeth.

Not a sparrow in sight this morning. The don't like the twilight, I've decided. These days they don't get out of bed until nine and are tucked up again by 4pm. You'd have thought they would have made use of every daylight hour for foraging but perhaps their eyes don't see well in the dark. And it is still raining.

Talking of things crepuscular, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata keeps going round and round in my head. I'd like to be able to play it on my piano and maybe one day I will - it is not excessively complicated - but it is too complicated for me now. So I am making up a simplified version. After all, it is all practice and no practice is wasted. Meanwhile I have just about sorted Secret Santa and if you have volunteered you should be getting your marching orders shortly. Re:
Fennie's Avatar Do hope that Camilla is hasn't been blown away by the gales which have reached, I hear, even the wide pastures of Norfolk!
Oh hear us when we cry to Thee, for those in trouble on the sea.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Thank you kindly Fennie for posting for the larks.

Yes alright here and safe not so windy yesterday as it was the day before, sorry did not make it to the perch last night, fell asleep on the sofa all due to missed sleep the night before no doubt. Very taxing day today too when is it never! It's raining buckets here and Patch has just come back in with me and slipped the collar and has run around with muddy paws! I would like to be somewhere warm and peaceful lounging on a verandah sipping a glass of vinoLaughing

Re:
Camilla's Avatar We are to expect some snow this weekend here in Norfolk I hear Wales is to get some of the white stuff too. That is quite some damage I see in the pic Fennie from 2012 to the grounds of the library. Little sparrows munching on the food I put out for them this morning and along comes a blackbird very sternly and refuses the sparrows to get a look in on the food he was rather a greedy blackbird, still there are lots of berries on all of the bushes here in our garden and they have the Bramleys too of course on the ground. Need to stock up on some more fat balls later today for birds.

Moonlight Sonata was one my FIL favourite pieces of music my daughter when she was learning how to play the piano and had private tutoring for 5 years learned how to play it beautifully although she has not played since for ages. Practice practice Fennie!

Thank you re SS have received my name out of the hat of who to send to.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Verandahs are for the summer and for sunsets. For the winter we should sit by the fireside and sip sherry in inclemencies and vintage port in storms! Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Sherry is a wonderful drink and almost like a piano with its number of styles of keys all the way from the lightest, palest, dryest Manzanillas to the glorious deep Olorosos. But port I have always found slightly disappointing, unless as communion wine. Though I daresay if the wind was howling like a banshee and the rain lashing at the windows and there was a good fire and good company I don't suppose I should mind. You wouldn't anyway want to drink sherry in a storm.Very HappyVery Happy
