Withy Brook's Avatar I love Viburnum bodnantense. It flowers here from September to about March and cheers us throughout the dark days of winter. I believe it is meant to have a good scent, but with my silly nose, I can't smell it Crying or Very sad

Fennie's Avatar To shorten winter, start to enjoy is empty bleakness and the sense of cleansing before renewal. Enjoy the frost and snow the wind and rain and explore the bodily sensations of feeling cold and damp and dark. Note how each winter day in the new year is longer than the next, how the birds go to roost later and the harbingers of spring, both plant and animal arrive one by one. Observe the mild cloudy and subtle light, the faded colours the battered grass, the muddy lanes and ponder the miracle that the next few weeks and months will bring.
