Cowart's Common Room
Naming a Baby

My son and his partner are expecting a new arrival on 3rd June, a sibling for little Holly Isabella who was 2 years on Boxing Day.

The baby scan revealed this morning that it is going to be another girl, they desperately wanted a little boy but are happy to know that the baby is doing well and that is the main thing and they will love her just as much.

At the moment the chosen middle name is Alexandra, but they still are unsure what first name to choose. I have put my name into the hat with Evie. Their surname is a long name so they are deciding to go for a shorter first Christian name.

Any ideas much appreciated.Very Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Well with Alexandra as a middle name I would have to suggest Edith... Edith Alexandra was my GrannyVery Happy

I rather like Emma as a short name and any I've met have been very nice people, or Ellie is nice too.

Camilla's Avatar Thanks FN, yes love Edith too, my Great Grandmother was named Edith also.Very Happy

I have mentioned Emma or Emily, I know that my sons partner loves that name, but it has not been chosen. I like Ellie too FN.

KitKatCot's Avatar I heard something on the radio the other day and the couple had three girls, Alice, Florence and Grace.

I'm not sure what I think about FlorenceConfused but I like Alice and Grace.

Mountainear's Avatar What lovely news Camilla. I'm sure they will come up with the perfect name - she'll grow into it whatever.

Faith's Avatar KKC, I love Grace and Florence, but don't like Alice.

Evie is sweet and pretty Camilla, but has been very much used in recently years. I go to toddler groups so I know!

My suggestions are: Polly, Hope, Jodie, Faye, Lucy, Tia, Verity, Elodie, Jade, Nina, Ivy, Dulcie and Fleur.

Withy Brook's Avatar Old fashioned names seem to be popular at present, however, Fay for me (no e).

Faith's Avatar Yes, another popular one in the toddler groups is Elsie - I like it though.

Camilla's Avatar Thanks again for all your suggestions, lovely names there, can't have Nina, Faith because that is my daughter's name. She was supposed to be Karenina as in the book of it's title but we chose Nina in the end.Very Happy

Ivy has already been chosen by son's friend's baby I believe.

I hear that the Princess Royal's daughter Zara who has just given birth a few days ago may choose Poppy for her little girl.

Ivy's Avatar Sophie Alexandra
Chloe Alexandra
Marie Alexandra

And she could go abroad anywhere and never have her name mispronounced.

Also I like Amelie but I suppose that sounds too close to Emely in English. ivy would of course be my sugestion but. Holly and Ivy ?

Faith's Avatar I think Holly and Ivy is sweet, but Camilla says Ivy already chosen by a close friend. I am surprised at Zara choosing Poppy for her little girl as Poppy and Max are the favourite dogs names in this country I believe!

I like Ivy's suggestion of Sophie Alexandra but I think it would be nice if both girls names ended with Y - Sophy doesnt look so pretty written though.

Inthemud's Avatar I like Evie or just Eve

Faith's Avatar Or Yve Smile

Camilla's Avatar So far there is a possibilty with the names Evie or Poppy but still not sure yet.

Yes I like the name June too Fennie, very apt seeing as baby will be born in June although the baby may come early in May. I'm afraid the name has not been chosen though.

Ivy's Avatar Well they have plenty of time left haven't they and maybe they find out that the scan was wrong and it is a boy after all 😄
The lady I shared a room with after daughter was born had been told she was having a girl and got everything in pink and red even girls nappies and out came a litte Michael.... Okay I suppose technology moved on in the last 20 years but..... You ca't be certain before you hold the finished "product" in hand can you?

Pimsonthelawn's Avatar I really like the flower names, Fleur as Faith suggested is nice, I wanted to use it for one of my daughters but changed it to Fern at the last minute ( middle name)

Camilla's Avatar It would be lovely if they had a boy Ivy as they a girl already, but that's nature for you. My son is 43 this year and his partner will be 38 so time is ticking on re producing another baby.

Love the name Fleur Pims, this takes me back to Fosythe Saga with Susan Hampshire the actress.
