Fish Worries

The fish have all disappeared. I don't think they're dead as no bodies are floating on the surface. Don't think the heron has visited either so I think they must be down in the depths sheltering from the scorching heat. I'm running the pump and topping up with tap water sprayed from a hose to maximise oxygen- I think. Wondering whether to scoop out some of the weed assuming this uses oxygen as well as providing it?
I seem to remember we moved house to minimise responsibilities but appear to have traded chickens for fish.
All pond tips gratefully received, I'm hoping the fish will start to be visible again once the temperature drops.

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar I wouldn't remove the duckweed as this provides shade which discourages blanket weed.

The heron may visit before you are up and about.

It looks a lovely pond - how deep is it?

Fairy Nuff's Avatar They're probably hiding in the shade, have a look with a torch later at night when it's cooler.
It is a lovely pondSmile

Camilla's Avatar Hi Lily,

My neighbours have a huge pond in their garden, I notice too that they have a small running waterfall which continues all the time to cool the water. They have Carp in their pond I think.

Here is a link for you Lily that you might find useful.

Lily's Avatar Thank you everybody. Have tried creeping out in the dark with a torch- just one fish in view but better than none.
Camilla, thank you for the link. The blog mentions shade and the pond now has a green sunshade balanced across part of it.

Rosie, not sure how deep but I will keep the duckweed as you suggest- very bad on all aquatic plants- first time I've needed to know what's what.
Rain forecast for Monday, maybe a bit cooler then I hope.
