Favourite Cars

Following Camilla's Spitfire, here is my "special " car.Uploaded Image

This 1960 Mini was originally owned by my grandfather, then by my mother after his death. Finally Mum gave it to me when she went "automatic". I really loved that car - had fallen in love with it when it was new in 1960. I had it restored and used it regularly. It had a push button on the floor to start and funny split windows which slid back and fore. I sold it to a Mini fan some years ago and think now it's probably history.
Modern minis are nice but nothing compared to my first love.

I passed my test 28 years ago but have never actually owned a car myself!
My other halves have had the cars, my favourite would have to be the Nova (so new on the market then we caused quite a stir on our holiday in Eire as no one there had seen one yet... everywhere we parked we came back to a wee crowd gathered round the car) it just seemed to fit me perfectly, being a bit of a short stop most cars are out of proportion for me.

Re:
Ivy's Avatar What a lovely little car. Lilke the Beetle the new versions are nice but nothing compared to the original. My daughter is madly in love with this old car. She always wanted one since she was about 12 or so.But my OH talked her out of it for safety reasons.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar I had several minis - my first and best loved was an ex AA minivan which I repainted and drove to Alicante and back. I also had a mini countryman - very smart with its woodwork. I owned a clubman for a while and then bought in an auction an awful car which I had to get rid of very quickly. Yes, minis were grand. I had forgotten about the floor starter. They leaked badly in the rain, had no heater and clutch fluid would run down the pedal over your shoe. They also rusted badly - otherwise they were delightful and I used to enjoy throwing them around tight corners.

Re:
Faith's Avatar It is lovely Lily, very pretty little ca. I had a Mini Clubman too Fennie and I adored it, and it was so useful, could get everything into it (I used to do a market stall!)

Re:
Blackbird's Avatar My first car was a dark green 65 VW bug and it offered freedom (once I learned how to shift) and adventure- often more than I wanted. I love my current car and am looking forward to my next but the first will always hold a place in my heart.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Lovely chic car Lily, that car will probably be in the classic car section now, like my triumph spitfire I sold years ago.

FN, you passed your test 3 years after me then.Very Happy
