Cowart's Common Room

G and I have just been for a walk, crossing the front lawn for the first time today. Saddened to find many browny-black feathers, with a small piece of wing. A hen blackbird and clearly a cat. Worse was to come. We walked past a large Lonicera nitida and saw damage. The b....y cat had jumped up and taken the hen off her nest. There was nothing left in it. So tragic. Crying or Very sad

Fennie's Avatar Oh Withy, how sad! As you say, tragic. Crying or Very sad

My mother, who could be quite earthy, might have advised peeing on the cat. From a great height. After eating asparagus.

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar How would your mother have managed that? Was she very athletic?

Faith's Avatar Oh dear that is awful WithySad.

I've seen two dead blackbirds recently on the roads - they fly so low across from hedge to hedge, so everyone please be careful when driving.

Pimsonthelawn's Avatar Awful Withy, I have a constant battle with a cat, it took my favourite male black bird and all the young ones last summer. Not a lot you can do about it really.

Faith's Avatar Thank goodness not many cats around here. My adopted cat doesn't come in the garden, except at night to eat in the shed kitchen.

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Sad What a shame, luckily the cat who frequents our garden is more interested in snoozing in the long grass and hardly bothers to open an eye if there's a bird about.

Camilla's Avatar Oh how very sad Withy.Crying or Very sad heartbreaking.

I used to keep 4 cats but I would never have another one again now, just so upsetting when they kill the birdies, and of course it's not their fault just their feline instincts to hunt.

Wouldn't mind a cat like your one though FN.
