Cowart's Common Room
Silly Rhymes

Silly rhymes, or sayings day - what are your favourites - either popular ones, or ones you have written yourself . . .

Here are a couple of mine.

Show me a home
Where the buffalo roam
And I'll show you a house
With a very dirty carpet

God helps those who helps themselves
So I helped myself and got six months

There's a hole in the sky where the rain gets in
The hole is very small which is why the rain is thin

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar One from Blossom

Never got to sleep on an argument
Stay up and plot your revenge

If a man says something in a forest and no-one is there to hear him - is he still wrong.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar Hah! I suspected you were in hereWink

one for the photographers...

I saw a little squirrel once just sitting in a tree
The cheeky little squirrel started throwing nuts at me
I think he had been drinking
in fact he was quite plastered
So I took my great big Cannon out
And shot the little...

Re:
Lampworkbeader's Avatar I had this written in my autograph book when I was at school. It was thought to be very daring. How times have changed.
.
I love you dearly
I love you mighty
I wish your pyjamas were next to my nighty
Now don't be embarrassed
And don't blush red
I mean on a clothes line and not in a bed.

I guess it's a lot less cheeky than the old wedding telegram (remember those?) rhyme:

Take a tip from one who knows, tie your nighty to your toes!

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Back to Spike Milligan (epitaph!)

I told you I was ill!

Another epitaph

Here lies John Bunn,
He was killed by a gun.
His name was not Bunn but Wood,
But Wood would not rhyme with Bunn,
But Bunn would.

Two peanuts were walking down a road when one peanut was assaulted (peanut).

The common cormorant or shag,
Lays eggs inside a paper bag.
The reason you will see no doubt,
It is to keep the lightening out.

There was a young lady from Joppa,
Who came a society cropper.
She went to Ostend
With a gentleman friend........
And the rest of the story's improper.

Re:
Blossomcottage's Avatar Oh Spike Milligan used to live in our village, I think he had downed a few too many pints in our pub when he wrote some of his rhymesLaughing

Re:
Blossomcottage's Avatar One fine day in the middle of the night
Two dead men got up to fight,
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other.

Re:
Faith's Avatar Yesterday upon the stair
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away
When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door
Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away
