Cowart's Common Room

A week ago on Monday night, a young lad who lives in the village came too fast, on an icy snowy road down to the T junction near the village and ran into the telegraph pole, which snapped off at head height, bringing down the wires. He did not report the accident, so in the morning, the road was closed while the wires were cut and the pole moved, and the police came.
Then, ....nothing.... All you could speak to, on the intermittent mobiles, was India. 5 businesses (all on domestic lines) were out of contact. The rest of us could not do all the things we were used to doing. One or two had internet access via a Blackberry or some such.
The following Tuesday - 5 working days - a sub contractor of Openreach put up the new pole. Then it took Openreach itself till thismorning to re-connect the wires.
In a way, the worst part was the lack of communication and being referred, in texts to my mobile, to their web site Twisted Evil
Thank goodness we are back to normal now, with just catching up to do.

Camilla's Avatar Hi Withy, was wondering where you were as had not seen you on line for a while. Thought you may have got your appointment at the hospital.

Hope the young lad was alright, but he should have reported the accident. We take it for granted that we can get communication at the press of a button, to actually speak to a human person and not auto messages. Pleased to hear you have everything back to normal now Withy.

Westerwitch's Avatar Berlimey - we all rely on the internet so much . . . and yet it is as you have found out so vulnerable.

Withy Brook's Avatar The lad was OK, so far as I know. He/they have not communicated with the village or made any apology for the upset and inconvenience (and costs in many cases) that they have caused.

Blackbird's Avatar I'm glad that all are well even with ruffled feathers and much frustration- all for very good reasons.
