Blackberrying!

I promised my little grandson we'd go blackberrying and he really enjoyed it! Have you been blackberrying this year?

I remember in a MillyMollyMandy book, MMM asked her parents, grandparents and uncle and aunt how they liked their blackberries and they all gave different answers - in a pie, as jam, etc - so do you like blackberries and how do you like them best?

Re:
Fennie's Avatar They are very good just with milk, or in an apple pie, or as jam, in fact they are good in almost anything, or they can beaten straight off the plant.

Re:
Vic's Avatar Ooh Faith. I love Milly Molly Mandy, my daughter still has the books. The blackberries around us aren't quite ready yet. My dogs go blackberrying, they help themselves straight of the bushes! It's so sweet to watch. They keep looking to see if they are ready yet!

Re:
Faith's Avatar Vic, that's why I tell the children not to pick the lower ones in case the doggies have been eating them - or worse!

I stewed some last night with a little sugar and had them with cream - very yummy even the little boot-button ones!

Re:
Vic's Avatar Quite right Faith! Though I'm sure they would be ok after a wash! I never get a chance to make anything as I tend to just scoff them as they are!

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Blackberry crumble for me!
What's this about beating them, Fennie? I thought that was just for walnut trees.

Re:
Lampworkbeader's Avatar Blackberries are wonderful cooked with nectarines instead of apples - they need very little sugar this way. Serve with plain yoghurt, icecream or custard Yum!

Re:
CalicoKate's Avatar Oh def crumble for me - love them, and off the plant of course too. There are masses of 'brambles' on the plants but they are all still green, too early to start picking yet up here.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Milly Molly mandy books and still have my copies and also one of my mums in which she painted in the illustrations - beautifully it has to be said! - although naughtily too!
I was only think of that chapter yesterday when I was picking Rowan berries (for jelly making) and using one of B's walking sticks to hoike the branches nearer. Laughing

Re:
Camilla's Avatar They were lovely books The Milly Molly Mandy Books Faith, I bought them all for my daughter when she was small.

I used to grow Blackberries in the garden to our other old house years ago, I used them mainly for making jam with and also mixing them with gooseberries too that I used to grow. Love them in pies and with ice cream...yum.
