Cowart's Common Room
Spotted Dick

Thought I'd put a pic up of one of the Malay Spotted Doves that we also have in small (tiny) numbers living wild about here - just to keep the dove theme going...... I call him Spotted Dick.

They are Streptopelia Chinensis. They set up shop after what is referred to as a "substantial liberation" in Auckland in the 1920's and have been fairly plentiful in Auckland ever since. They must only just be starting to get this far north recently however. They are so sweet, more timid than the Ring Necks, and coo as well.Uploaded Image

Our carpet went down at the cottage today - photos on FB! Very Happy!Very Happy

Re:
Cowgirl's Avatar Funny thing is I think our birds are fairly well, mundanely coloured.... having lived in Oz where they are so flamboyant!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Lovely bird Cowgirl, but then I love all the birds. Saw a wildlife programme on TV on Friday evening about the Puffins another lovely bird, did not realise that they mate for life and and when they are not at sea and come back to nest they always choose exactly the same nest. Did not know either that they build their nest under the ground in burrows bit like the rabbits.
