Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Brilliant blog.

The bird with the injured leg sounds as though it has a serious infection and the leg is dead and very likely gangrenous . . . it will probably need amputating . . . if the birds body hasn't walled of the infection then the bird will die of septicemia . . .

Could Wildlife Aid help because the bird should really see a vet?

Salt water is very good for wounds Very Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar They do keep you busy all these birds don't they Faith, I hope Joby enjoyed his holiday with you.

WW's idea is a good one , do you have a rescue centre nearby?

Re:
Faith's Avatar The bird with the injured leg has now died WW. We do have a rescue centre nearby FN, which WW knows as she used to work there! I have a feeling that they just put ordinary pigeons down whatever the illness/injury - I've taken several up there at different times and none have pulled through.

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Sorry to hear the bird died - but suspect it was too ill to be saved . . . suspect too you are right re the wildlife place putting down pigeons - I do know their resources were and probably are still stretched.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Sad that the duck has gone from your family. I do think that a peacock would go well with your flock. You could have bought one yesterday at the Vale show for 20 or so and some sweet little bantams like little balls of wool. There were geese too. They would keep your flocks in order and intruders (like foxes) away - unless they were sitting.
