Cowart's Common Room
Butterflies

Thankfully there is a cool breeze here this morning, it has been so humid. The b utterflies are around, Red Admiral, Tortoishell, Peacocks and Cabbage Whites, the Peacocks sun themselves on the paths.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar We still do not have any butterflies but the swallows seem to have recovered. There are young ones on the telephone wire to the house, waiting to be fed and the air is full of them. Such a revival after a virtual disappearance.

Re:
Faith's Avatar How lovely QC, it's always seems a treat to see the butterflies. I was lucky enough to see the kingfisher on the river at the weekend, always such a gem!

I adore swallows Withy, but we don't see many round here, and the ones we do might be swifts, I don't know!

Re:
Salle de Bain's Avatar Very few butterflies here so far....am hoping there's still time. Normally the buddleia are covered with all kinds of varieties.

For some reason we have House Martens instead of swallows this year...but my goodness there are so many of them. Counted 12 nests on the house this year. When I woke up this morning I lay in bed for a while watching flying practice and early morning fly catching outside the window. It was a lovely and relaxing start to the day. Smile

Re:
Cowgirl's Avatar Funnily this is something else we get all year! Butterflies - not all sorts - the Cabbage whites disappear, but the Monarchs stay all year round but are more plentiful in summer! We don't have many types here in NZ - those mentioned, plus a small blue one (common blue), red and yellow admirals, and the copper butterfly (a sm orange one). There are a few more when you get right into it but I have never seen them - Tussock, Long tailed Blue, Forest Ringlet.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar We have at least one Red Admiral come into the Studio each week for a look around just now so I guess they are looking for a cosy spot to chrysalise.
