Cowart's Common Room
Free Insulation

It's free said DIL. No really free she continued admitting she too had been a tad sceptical. So I submitted the online form and a very pleasant surveyor visited yesterday and like the man from Del Monte said yes- the loft space although difficult -could indeed be insulated. No age/benefit criteria required so in a few weeks time we will have almost 12inches of cosiness above us and all for free.

Fairy Nuff's Avatar I'm not sure I could face emptying the loft firstEmbarassed

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar It really is a good idea though. A lot of heat is lost through the roof which you will have paid for. You will be warmer and better off with an insulted roof. This is a government backed scheme to cut energy costs and you should go for it - checking first, of course, that it is bona fide.

Inthemud's Avatar Wow, that is good! Truly free!

Lily's Avatar Nothing to empty as the access is difficult.
The details are on the Direct Gov website. Apparently funded by the energy companies giving 10 million to the government for eco schemes.

Just hope we don't end up with an insulation man stuck in the atticVery Happy
Surveyor suggests I show them the easier bit first and then the more difficult bit after tea+ biscuits.

Preseli Mags's Avatar We keep getting calls about this and have had two surveys so far. Neither company would do it - we're far too tricky apparently. It's a great idea though. I think I need your surveyor Lily, he sounds braver than the two that had a look at our loft!

Salle de Bain's Avatar We had this done when we lived in was really worthwhile, and they did a super job!

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Wow! Nobody spotted my unintentional spelling mistake.

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Thankfully our loft had pretty thick insulation when we moved in before we filled it with junk.
I'm not insulted by your spelling at all RosieLaughing

Ivy's Avatar @ Rosy: I did and wondered if the roof felt insulted at being called difficult...Rolling Eyes

Lily's Avatar Freudian slip maybe? Poor roof has hurt feelings that we consider it is doing an inadequate job of keeping us warm?

Withy Brook's Avatar We had it done some years ago. The only trouble here is that we don't have much heat in the house to lose Rolling Eyes
