Cowart's Common Room
Olympics

OK So who is going to be watching the opening ceremony and or the rest of the games? Anyone going to be there?
I think we will watch the Opening Ceremony and I'm sure I'll catch odd bits and pieces but not glued to the screen. Enjoy if it's your thing! Very Happy

Re:
Lily's Avatar Curate's egg comes to mind. We've watched the first hour or so but have left it on record so we can zip through it tomorrow. Reserving judgement until I've seen the whole thing albeit at some speed in places. Have to say the moronic rap "music" was the last straw for us.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Some of the music stuff was horrendous for G and me but then we are of another generation, altogether!
The Phillipines are just coming in. This bit is very necessary but does take a long long time. I am waiting for the Queen to open it and to see who will light the fire.

Re:
Lily's Avatar Yes, agree Withy that the music is an age thing- or at least some of the music is. Probably a bit extra grumpy last night as have nasty cold/sore throat and was trying hard not to keep coughing so OH could watch in peace.

Re:
Faith's Avatar What I saw of it was amazing!

You may remember that two of my family are competing - I'll put the details on the private forum.

Re:
Inthemud's Avatar I watched first 2 hrs but bed beckoned, so missed who lit the final lantern with torch. Who was it?

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar We watched the whole thing - although did channel hop whilst all the countries were marching through.

Didn't like the Artic Monkeys - thought they were an odd choice. Cold Play would have been better.

As for Queenie - she looked bored most of the time and actually grim at others and was caught looking down and picking her nails when team GB came on. Maybe it really is time for her to step down.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar I liked most of the music, it was a bit like the sound track to my life, Artic Monkeys were pretty dire (I don't mind them normally but the song was eughh!) their second cover version was better.
I loved the flame, very innovative and I like the sentiment that there's one for each country all coming togeher to make the olympic flame.

It was lit by 7 or so of our future olympians Muddie, teenage athletes nominated by some of our great sportsmen and women.

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Went out to watch our own Lloyd Lee performing 'Educating Charlie' at the Market Theatre, Cowbridge. It's on again tonight if you are free!

Re:
Pimsonthelawn's Avatar Surprised myself by watching the whole thing, the Royals did appear a bit bored, loved the Queen and 007 bit, Arctic Monkeys not my thing and didn't see the need for Mr Bean. The flame was beautiful and looked really stunning.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar I thought that the making of the final cauldron was inspired and being lit by the next generation so emphasized the ethos of the Olympics.
Yes I am afraid that the Queen did not appear to be enjoying herself, to put it mildly. Her collection from Buck Palace by Bond was fun though and surprising.

Re:
Lily's Avatar Have just watched the rest of the ceremony. Loved almost all of it, bar the aforementioned rap! Thought the final lighting was fantastic. Shame about McCartney, so sad to see the died hair and hear the scratchy voice.
Did not understand the Arctic Monkeys- how did they fir in with the visual effects?

Re:
KitKatCot's Avatar I have to admit I nodded off a few times but what I saw was good. I thought the Bond bit was going to be a spoof with an actress playing the Queen. I said to Himself as we were watching it 'It's not like she's going to be the.........OMG it's the Queen'Very Happy

Re:
CalicoKate's Avatar Agree to most of comments, I did enjoy it, loved the final flamey bit, and and the next generation etc. but utterly HATED Paul McC. Wasn't too bothered by Artic Monkeys but WHY to an old has been Beatle singing a -to me- an old and irrelevant song very badly. It spoiled the whole evening for me.Evil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad Grouse grouse moan. To add insult to injury I was soooo cross to find myself with it running round my head when I got up!Twisted EvilTwisted Evil

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I have missed most of the Games as I have not been feeling too well lately, sad to hear we did not do well with the swimming yesterday, it was won by Chinese 16 year old I think, but of course that was only 1 day and there are lots more for the events for us to win.
