...a British Wimledon singles champion from 1977!

Since that was also a Jubilee year perhaps it's Murrays turn this Jubilee year?

Westerwitch's Avatar Virginia Wade was my Mum's favourite tennis player. Sadly my Mum died before Virginia won Wimbledon in 1977.

I saw Virginia Wade play at Wimbledon in 1982 - it was one of the very early matches (she won) and we were standing . . . I wasn't a tennis fan then, but I did it for my Mum because she never got to go to Wimbledon Very Happy

I will be watching this afternoon . . . I guess genes will out

Lily's Avatar Lovely photo, from the era when tennis wasn't such big business.
Anyone remember Angela Mortimer? She lived in Devon and used to practice with our former next door neighbour. Said neighbour always said A.M was no better than anyone else- just practised more! So by that reckoning I could make Wimbledon with a bit of effort.Very Happy

Camilla's Avatar I remember watching this match on telly WW, great photo. This was to be a sad year for me, my dear mother died 3 months later.

Such a shame Murray did not win the match, just read that he is hoping for a Gold in the Olympics. Best of luck to him.
