Cowart's Common Room
Cashier Etiquette

What is the best thing to do when you enter the Post Office or Bank and there are two unoccupied cashiers, both of whom you know, both smiling at you, both equally competent, and both eager to serve you perhaps because I always make a fuss of cashiers and treat them as humans. Both have served you over a long period and you don't want to be unfriendly to either. The issue is complicated because the queue always delivers you between the two cashiers, forcing you to make a choice. Is there something that you can say in this situation to avoid giving disappointment? Does anyone else worry about it?

Fairy Nuff's Avatar LaughingI would simply smile back and ask who's turn it was...
or perhaps play "eetle ottle black bottle"... or toss a coin!

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Never happens to me. When I get to the front of the queue after a long and irritating wait one of them pulls the blind down and goes to lunch or seems very absorbed in sorting her stamps. It must be your charm, Fennie. Evil or Very Mad

Faith's Avatar At our small local P.O. I always hope to get the same lovely lady, and have been known to let the person behind me go first so that I can have her. She knows exactly how I like to do my ebay parcels and I don't have to ask her for receipts, borrow a pen etc. By the way Fennie, I think you worry too much!Smile

Camilla's Avatar Yes know what you mean FennieVery Happy there is the lovely Jeanne to the left cubicle, then there is the lovely Julie to the right cubicle, both sweet lady's. If I go in and they are both empty I say.... eeny meeny miny mo......they know I wear an eccentric hat(not literally of course), but usually it's Julie I go to as her cubicle behind the bank it is on the right and that is where I enter through the door to bank.

Since they had the bank raid in early May this year it is still not open, neither is the hole in the wall cash machine put back yet, it is still boarded up and the police still have not caught the blighters yet. Businesses here in the village are complaining as they say it has had a knock on affect and they can't put their monies into the bank. We are a small village, the nearest bank is 8 miles away.

Westerwitch's Avatar I would wave at one and say thank you . . . and go to the other one and do the reverse next time . . . either that or stop going to the post office - it sounds way too stressful . . . Blink
