Cowart's Common Room
Did you have a good Easter?

Uploaded Image

Hope you've all had a good holiday weekend. Lots of rain here but we've still managed to install a new oil tank, plant out peas and first early potatoes, pot up seedlings and tubers. On Good Friday I queued for an hour to get the best fish and chips I know of, Saturday evening we went to a French bistro for steak-frites, and today we had lunch in a favourite local pub - what a treat, I haven't cooked a proper meal in days! I picked these daffodils in the garden today, planted by a former gardener here, in a corner by a wall.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar It amazes me how daffodils can recover from Armageddon. Following the Great Snow, they were all flat - in our garden, on the Village Green, in the Churchyard here and at Kirkwhelpington and everywhere else I expect. Now they are all standing up again and looking as though nothing had happened.

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar Our daffodils and tulips were flat too - this last lot of snow was very heavy. They've mostly picked up. I've lost a couple of branches here and there on some shrubs.

We needed the rain/moisture over here though - the land was very dry.

Re:
Lily's Avatar Lots of rain here too, but the gardens really need it.

Checking the mangetout daily for signs of germination- book says 7-10 days and they're now on overtime! Watch pots comes to mind.
Camellias all a bit brown from some heavy frosts.
Amazing how nature recovers.
