Cowart's Common Room
Petrol

I think petrol is now about 7.00 a gallon? Discussing this with friends today everyone agreed that they now limit leisure outings. I know last year we were told that many people are not holidaying in Cornwall due to the cost of the journey. The Eden project has special deals for residents of Devon and Cornwall presumably due to poor ticket sales and Heligan has a special all year ticket for 25.00 Presumably other businesses are similarly affected. I tend to think do I REALLY want to go somewhere before setting off. What do others think- have you started to be more careful with car journeys?

Re:
Fennie's Avatar The short answer is 'yes' - and its not just petrol! By the time you take other mileage related costs into account (tyres, maintenance etc) all of which are going up just as quickly, you don't want to go anywhere.

Re:
KitKatCot's Avatar Definitely. Journeys are planned in our house like military manoeuvres. We live in a village with no shops so I have to remember to get all we need in my lunch hour as there is no 'just popping out to the shops' on a weekend.

I remember being horrified when petrol went up to 50p per gallon Shocked

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar Don't know what it is per gallon. Know that it has gone up 3 a litre since January and diesel is now at best 1.439. We live out in the sticks so it's always going to be pricier. But that,s not enough to stop me wanting to shout 'Unfair!' somebody, somewhere is making a packet out of us consumers - why are we not making more noise about it????? Tax on it all I can take - don't like, but can take - but somewhere between the price of crude, some production costs and the added tax is PROFIT...and who's creaming the hugeness of that off?

And journeys? Combine them, share them...don't ramble round the shires like we used to.

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar Sorry - that was a bit of a rant. Get's my goat though.

CalicoKate's Avatar We spent over 100 in petrol last week, and I really don't think we went anywhere exciting! Shocked

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar HO has had to severely cut back on his business driving never mind our private use. He used to fill up 2 sometimes 3 times a week...not any more.
He has to be pretty sure of Dolphins turning up now before driving to Chanonry and back and theirs no more going out and about looking for wildlife now without forward planning...which is having quite an impact on his work.
