Davy Jones died yesterday as some of you may have read. The Monkees weren't a particular favourite but this is a tribute to him.

Fennie's Avatar My half-sisters were great fans but I never cared for them myself. Somehow they always seemed silly and unreal.

Westerwitch's Avatar I LOVED the Monkees so VERY sad to hear Davy Jones has gone - he was only 66 and I grew up with their music and of course the TV show . . .

Patsy's Avatar I'm with you WW , Davy Jones was my first heart throb, so cute and he loved horses, what's not to like? Such a shame he's gone, he was much loved.
I think the first record I ever bought was Daydream Believer, still a great record even now.
Yes they were a manufactured band in that the group was created as actors not musicians but songwriters like Carole King and Neil Diamond wrote many of their songs.
Another bit of my childhood gone....

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Loved the Monkees too only Mike Naismith was my favourite...I always seemed to go for the dark mysterious ones in a band!
