Cowart's Common Room
Snow

Is it just the monitor at work or has the snow on the Coo header increased?
Here some schools are closed due to serious weather conditions ( strong winds and snow are never a good combination in rural areas with no hedges as you know them in UK) The big city is still snow free but if everywhere around emergency measures are kicking in, it won't be long before we get it too. Was very lucky to have yesterday off, as central heating at the office died during the weekend and will only be fixed today. Fortunately we have electric heaters today but yesterday must have been freezing.... Have a good day and enjoy the snow if you possibly can. All who need their car today: Don't forget to take a Thermos flask with hot drinks, an extra blanket and make sure your mobile phones are fully charged.

Re:
Faith's Avatar Sensible advice Ivy, and I must remember to tell my youngest daughter who is a flibbertygibbet and will go out in a strap top without a care in the world!

Snow has hit Surrey, but not too bad yet - still falling though. No doubt I will end up trapped here unable to get the car out! No doves have arrived to be fed, they hate any change. The grass underneath the big garden table is clear, and it is my feeding station for the ground birds. This morning Mr. Pheasant and his wife are here with the usual crowd.

Re:
Angel's Avatar Good advice Ivy. I keep intending to put a blanket in the car. Will take one today, just for safe measure.

Keep warm

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Yes, Ivy, we shall do that. Hope you get your heating fixed! We have more snow here this morning. Weather forecast seems to be all over the place. They are OK with rain but for anything else you might as well put your finger in the airVery Happy. We were promised dry, windy and very cold - instead we have got, snow, no wind and warm (well zero rather than the minus 2 to minus 4 predicted).

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Parts of Northumberland had a heavy fall over night, but here we did not have too much - about 2-3 inches at a guess. The forecast strong wind just seems to come in gusts now and then and mostly just blows the white stuff off the trees. The local forcast this morning was much less snow in the next 3 days. Yet to find out if the road in has had any attention.
Ivy, that it excellent advice to drivers. They keep telling us to do it on the tele but I wonder how many do. I carry a rug in the car at all times and often have a chocolate bar too, but it is probably uneatable. As for a hot thermos, well.....

Salle de Bain's Avatar Hi Ivy...
Great advice..I keep a shovel and a sleeping bag in my boot when it's like this. Not that I'm going anywhere! deB bought an old Landrover recently...and I'm so glad he did...he just about made it to work today! It's snowing heavily here and we have a Siberian blast (-6). The schools are closed too. Mucking out was no pleasure this morning...could hardly bend my arms to shovel due to all the layers of clothing!!

Stay warm everyone...and don't go out unless you absolutely have to!!
