Cowart's Common Room
STALL 6 - VenerableBead (Boudicca23)

Hi everyone - Boudicca 23 here, and welcome to the first PurpleCoo Christmas Gift Fair!!

I specialise in creating beautiful pieces of jewellery from the more unusual stones that you won’t find in the average jewellery shop no matter how hard you look. Of course, you can’t beat the natural beauty of amethyst or rose quartz, which I also use, but so few people have discovered the blend of colours contained in Fluorite, the cheerfulness of Dalmatian Jasper, the cool sophistication of Chalcedony or the sheer exuberance of Dichroic Glass. I began making and selling jewellery in early 2004 and so many customers asked if I had a website, that I decided to make one!

At present there are over 150 items for sale on the website so I'll just post a selection in the comments section. Please feel free to PM me if you're interested in anything, or you can buy it direct from the website which will also guide you through postage, etc.

Amethyst Wiggle Bracelet - £9.50Amethyst Wiggle Bracelet - £9.50

This bracelet is made by hand-bending 1mm thick silver-plated wire into wiggles, then adding stations of semi-precious stones in between. The clasp is the same contemporary toggle that I use for my necklaces.

Length is 8¼ inches/21 cms.

Lavender Crazy Agate & Pearl Earrings - £9.00
Boudicca23's Avatar Uploaded Image

Lavender Crazy Agate is a beautiful stone - shades of purple on a cream background - and, like so many of the stones I use, one you won't find on the High Street. I've teamed the main bead with pearls in both a creamy-beige colour and a pinky-purple colour. Hooks, as always, are sterling silver.

Desert Jasper Collar - £29.50Desert Jasper Collar - £29.50

I just love Desert Picture Jasper, a semi-precious gem so-called because, close up, it looks like you're flying high over an arid desert looking down, or, alternatively, you're standing right close up to some desert cliff-face examining the stratification layers. Sorry, but that's how much I like Picture Jasper! Full of gorgeous shades of brown, cream and beige, I've put five flat-backed briolettes into this necklace to make it more of a collar and between them (and round the rest of the necklace) are large, organic, polished nuggets of the same stone. The gold-plated toggle clasp is of a contemporary design and easy to fasten.

Necklace length is 18 inches/46cms.

Purple Agate Necklace - £28.50

This is a bit of a showstopper, folks. I normally use these large beads as single focal pendants on other necklaces but I fancied a change and put seven of these stripy Purple Agate beauties into one necklace! I've added multicoloured glass beads in between as spacers, just to give it a bit of funkyness. I would point out there is a bit of heft to this necklace as the beads are quite large - about 2 inches long each - but I find it comfortable to wear.

Necklace length is 21 inches/53cms but due to the size of the beads this actually means it more or less sits on the collarbone, meaning it's more of an 18 inch size.

This is such a delightful necklace - very summery. Would go equally well under a white shirt or with a t-shirt, or even a floaty dress. The white beads and large leaf shapes are all hand made from glistening Mother of Pearl, and I've used peacock blue freshwater pears as spacers.

Necklace length is 19½ inches/50cms.

Blue Lampwork Glass and Ice Quartz Fibula - £12.50
Boudicca23's Avatar Uploaded Image

Silver plated wire has been formed into a fibula (Ancient Roman brooch) with added wiggles and swirl, onto which I've added some Ice Quartz chips, a couple of dark blue glass beads and a large, round, flat focal bead in mostly blue but with some pink handmade in lampwork glass. From the swirl there is a dangle with a Swarovski crystal star for added sparkle.

Acholi African Necklace - £18.00

Carved wooden African beads have been combined here with multicoloured beads handmade by the Acholi tribeswomen of Uganda. There are little gold plated spacer beads and the contemporary toggle clasp is gold plated. This looks absolutely fabulous on so, be warned, if it doesn't get bought soon then I'm definitely keeping this for myself!

Necklace length is 20 inches/51cms

Blue Acholi Bead Fair Trade Earrings - £8.50
Boudicca23's Avatar Uploaded Image

These earrings are something special. The large bicone beads are handmade from recycled paper by women in the Acholi Quarters slum in the northern region of Uganda. They tear thin strips from magazines, roll them up and coat them in varnish.

It is a Fair Trade business and you can find more information here - http://acholibeads.com/

I've taken blue and white beads and strung them on assymetric lengths of beading wire so there's a slight natural curve to them, i.e., they deliberately don't hang straight.. Small purple and pink glass beads have been added as well as a blue Swarovski Crystal at the top. The hooks are, as always, solid sterling silver.

I think they're beautiful and you should buy them, especially as I've priced them to sell in the hope that I will have to buy more beads to make more earrings and so help the Acholi tribeswomen of Uganda.

Mauve Jasper & Pearl Necklace - £19.00

There are lovely peachy-pink colours in this necklace. The focal pendant is absolutely gorgeous - the gradation of colour makes it look airbrushed but I can guarantee you that it is all natural. There are also six smooth large rondelles of mauve jasper together with rose pink pearls and white pearls in the rest of the necklace.

Necklace length is 18½ inches/47cms.

Red & Black Chinese Necklace - £32.00

Say 'Gung Hay Fat Choy' and welcome in the Chinese New Year with this very special Chinese-inspired necklace.

Predominantly red and black, this 20 inch/51cm long necklace is made from cylinders of shiny, shiny black onyx, red coral and carved cinnabar, interspersed with black round beads and silver-plated spacers, all finished off with our favourite no-frills, very modern silver-plated toggle. Absolutely fabulous with a plunge neckline and is very definitely dramatic - without doubt a statement piece. Would go great with black velvet.

The overall drop of the central focal section is 3½ inches/9 cm.

Royal Purple Wire Wrapped Dichroic Glass Pendant - £19.50

Isn't the colour of this dichroic glass just mouthwatering? A real proper deep Royal Purple colour, yum, yum!! I've wrapped this in silver-plated wire all fancy-like, and it's hung from a sterling silver chain. I also made the glass.

Necklace length is 18 inches/46cms and the length of the pendant from the top of the bail is 2¼ inches/5½ cms.
