Cowart's Common Room
Owl Post

Hello Night Owls . . . slight break from tradition just for one night - here is your owl post . . . a bit earlier than usual, just so that we can get the Common Room swept and ready for the Christmas Fair tomorrow.

So if you are a Night Own then have a natter here . . . no doubt Camilla our Chief Owl will be along later to put up some pictures in the comments.

Re:
Frances's Avatar WW, bravo to you on your organization of the Christmas fair.

Wishing you all fabulus luck.

Now...fellow owls, I am here early, courtesy of a day off for our traditional Thanksgiving Day. No parade or turkey for me this year. I elected to sleep a bit later than usual this morning, too much later to think of wandering over to Central Park West to see the bands, balloons, floats.

Instead, I enjoyed working on painting my Christmas cards. In lieu of turkey dinner, I followed my own tradition of sending a contribution off to Doctors Without Borders.

Pasta for me tonight.

Looking for some other owls to land here. xo

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Thank you Westerwitch,

Sorry to have missed you, sweet dreams. Best of luck with the Fair.

Hello Frances,

Glad to hear you had a relaxing day, I heard that Barack Obama has pardoned two Turkeys, Apple and Cider. I say well done to the President, those are two very lucky Turkeys.!
This Christmas I will be munching my way through nut roast again, have given up meat mostly now.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends.!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar How is the weather in NY Frances? I awoke to a winter wonderland of snowy scene, quite lovely, but very cold.! more on the way for 10 days I hear, although Scotland has snow more heavier I think.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Bet those festive cards are lovely you are painting Frances, wish I had your talent. Will be buying some cards again this year although not so many.

Daisy has had a good day, quite perky in fact, although she did not wan't to venture out in the snow much, very short walk along the path to the local church.

xx

Re:
Frances's Avatar Thank you for the Thanksgiving wishes, and lovely card. Yes, every year our President pardons at least one turkey.

How about snow for you already! I know it will be an inconvenience for many, but just for a bit ... it must be beautiful.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Camilla, I am so glad that little Daisy is a bit more perky. I know you must be happy about that, too.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Just heard on the news on radio that there has been a severe weather warning put out, my daughter is working on a night shift at the hospital tonight and she has quite a journey home too later this morning when her shift has ended. I did ring her to say go carefully, oh I'll be just fine mother.!

Yes, I am so happy about Daisy, obviously the penicillan tabs must be helping too, thank you Frances for your kind good well messages for her.

xx

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I am tossing with the idea of buying a new velvet dress to wear for festive season, splashed out on a new coat which I fell in love with, sure my purse will know it.!Saw an adorable black taffeta and net underskirt skirt, sadly too short, have to remind myself that I am in my sixty's.!Smile

Re:
Well, if the penicillin tabs are helping Daisy, they're obviously helping you, too, Camilla. Just that the mode of operation is a bit different, so to speak.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Camilla, I am sure that your daughter will take care with her driving.

While thinking about snow and wintry weather ... I think I see Bear on the perch.

That means that I am the only owl with temps still above freezing.

Re:
Camilla, just because you're in your sixties doesn't mean you have to dissolve yourself into frumpiness. You're a truly venerable member of the community now, act with boldness and daring!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Good Evening to Bear.!

How is Bear? well I hope..... so too Miss Sadie. Know you have had a busy day perhaps with the papers for students you prepared.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Yes, Camilla, do treat yourself to the holiday outfit that will look just fine on you, and put a smile on your pretty face.

Re:
Actually, I tried to climb up to the perch, Frances, but the bark on the tree was frozen, and after a few feet of climbing, I slid right back down, landing with a "flumpf!" on the snow. Now, that's a bit embarrassing for a Bear!

Sigh Exclamation

Re:
Frances's Avatar On or off the actual/virtual perch, it's grand to have you around here, Bear.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Thank you Frances, Bear- I have always been daringSmile I can't help though of the poem I posted way back..... puritans scold me for being sometimes girl sometimes woman and who knows what else, they object to me wearing a diamond stud.......

Re:
Frances put it exactly right, Camilla. I certainly second her motion.

Had lunch with a friend of mine today, and in the afternoon attended some workshops at an Animal Care conference in our city (sponsored by our University, along with some professional organizations).

Sadly, the day when I can abide long workshops has come and gone. Got home late, ate supper, played with Miss Sadie for a few minutes, and collapsed into bed for a couple of hours. I'm still about 3/4 asleep.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I may do just that Frances.! Bear- loved what you wrote..... on climbing that tree, good enough for chapter in childrens story book.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Dear owl pals, tomorrow will be a first day of our big sale at the shop, and I will also be on the late, late shift. I don't think that there is much chance that I will see you all tomorrow night.

However, after that .... lots of time off for me, so I'll be able to land here lots and lots.

Bear, will you be getting any special festive wear for the holidays? I am tossing you a soft ball straight line here....

Posted by: Frances on 26th Nov 2010 at 02:30AM

Re:
Oh, Camilla; just because the puritans are jealous, that doesn't mean you should amend your ways. Not in the slightest Exclamation

Do they have chainsaws bigger than the Bear's? Or the Headmistress?

Re:
Frances's Avatar Bear, about long workshops, I have never been too fond of them, unless the assembled group actually wants to get some work done, rather than talk, talk and more talk.

Posted by: Frances on 26th Nov 2010 at 02:32AM

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I am sleepy eyed too at the moment Bear, so off to bed now, work later today.

I shall bid thee goodnight owls, night night Frances and Bear, sweet dreams. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Re:
Festive wear? Hmmmm. Other than some underwear with reindeers on it? I'll have to consult J on that one. (Bear is the most un-fashion-knowledgeable creatures anywhere.)

Speaking in my own defence on that, however, when one has a fur coat, what else does one need?

Good night Camilla. Sweet dreams!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Before I turn out the lamps, best of luck with the sale at the shop Frances. Lovely for you to be having those days off soon, goodie.!

Thanks for the tips Frances and Bear.!

Nighty Night.

Re:
Miss Sadie hasn't seen much of me today, and now Her Ladyship is demanding my attention. I need to go toss her squeaky toy around for her to fetch, thereby practising her retrieving skills.

So I'll have to bid thee adieu, Frances. I do hope you have a good day tomorrow.
