Jaynebeth's Avatar You have my every sympathy - daughter number 1 is having vision problems - the doctors suspect one of the herpes viruses is to blame

Re:
Fennie's Avatar That must be so irritating and the irritation must almost be worse than the inflammation and pain. Hope you manage to keep your spirits up.
Still the bar steward may have it worse than you.

Re:
Salle de Bain's Avatar Sorry to hear that WW. I recently sat on the back seat of a coach for an hour and a half, squeezed between 2 students. On either side they sneezed, sniffed (horribly) and coughed all over me the whole way. Not a hanky or a protective hand in site. They looked red, hot and feverish. I tried to hold my breath...but it's difficult to do that for 50 odd miles without turning blue. Now I'm waiting for the lurgy to develop!
I do wish people would stay at home when they are ill!!!!

Rant over....Rolling Eyes
Hope you soon feel better

Re:
Milla's Avatar that sounds vile. Ulcers as pointless and painful as cold sores. Sympathies. (and, yes, grab every silver lining: think thin)

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar WW, the herpes simplex virus is spread by direct contact. What have you been doing? Most people have the virus and it rears it's ugly head - in your case, lips, every so often, usually under stress of some kind.
You may find this information helpful:
Primary Stage This stage usually starts 2-8 days after you've been infected. Usually the infection causes groups of small, painful blisters.
While most people have a painful, primary stage, some don't have any symptoms at all and may not even know they are infected.
Latent Stage During this stage there are no blisters, sores or other symptoms. At this time the virus is travelling from your skin into the nerves near your spine.
Shedding Stage In this stage the virus starts multiplying in the nerves. It can then get into various body fluids. There are no symptoms during this stage, but the virus can be spread to others.
Recurrences Many people have a recurrence of the herpes virus because it remains in the body. Stress, being sick or tired may start a recurrence. This may be indicated by a tingling or itiching in the original site. -your friendly Virologist
Don't blame bar stewards but keep our of pubs anyway!

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Mmmmmm interesting Rosie - I have had no personal contact with anyone and the Doctor was adamant that I had caught this most likely by being sneezed on by someone with the virus.

I have not had this before . . ever . . so don't think I had the virus and it was waiting for me to be stressed . . .

So in answer to your question I haven't been doing anything - not sure what you mean by anything actually Shocked

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar It is true that the HSV type 1 virus is present in saliva so kissing someone else infected (not necessarily with visible symptoms) or hand to mouth contact, sharing personal items etc are all ways to infection. It is not generally considered that airborne transmission is the cause but it may be possible.
You may not have had an infection before. This may be the first time especially as you seem so bad.
There are plenty of sites on the web with further information and where I have brushed up my own knowledge.
I am sorry that you feel so rotten but it will pass. Sending some vibes - purple of course.

Re:
Suffolkmum's Avatar How awful WW. I had a horrible virus some years ago where my whole mouth was covered in ulcers. It was agony, on eof the worst few days I've ever had. I had of several other people in the wider (school) community who'd all got the same thing - there was no physical contact between any of us! I remember it and shudder, so you have my every sympathy and hope it clears up quickly.

huge sympathies and these viruses are v strange.
when my kids were small they passed 'hand, foot and mouth disease' to the family who sat next to them in the surgery waiting room, there was no contact either.. just these hideous blisters and nothing to do with livestock either..
thinking of you

Camilla's Avatar That sounds awful Westerwitch, poor you, hope you get relief from the medication soon, big hugs to you.

My daughter contracted Scabies a month ago...eeek.! she could hardly believe it, her GP got it wrong again as usual, the same GP who got my grandson's foot wrong when he nearly lost his foot. My daughter has now changed her GP.

Daughter said she may have got it from arriving on a hospital ward and found it to be thoroughly filthy.! not good at all.!
