Cowart's Common Room
A Week in Northumberland

I have just returned from a wonderful week in Northumberland staying in an @the mill cottage, it was wonderful and such a good rest.

Mags and I took the dogs ( Head of House, Maisie and Daphne) they can be seen here with Mags on one of the amazing Northumberland beaches.

Fennie's Avatar Wonderful, I am braced by the wind and waves! But here's a conundrum. Both cats and dogs like warmth, sitting by the fire. Cats hate water. Ever seen a cat swimming? But (most) dogs love the water and seem impervious to the cold. I know that thick coated dogs like Newfies are supposed to have an inner coat that stays dry but even Newfies have bald bellies (well baldish) and cold water on their tums must feel freezing. Cats don't have bald bellies - why? Anyone have any idea?

Westerwitch's Avatar Ooooo yes looks like you had a brilliant holiday.

No idea Fennie. . . Maybe dogs hair is such that it traps air and keeps the dog warm. Whereas cats hair doesn't.

Withy Brook's Avatar Glad you had a lovely time. You didn't half have a gale or two though and that picture looks as though the spume is flying!
Sorry we didn't meet. Next time?
