Cowart's Common Room
Anne Widdecombe

For those of you who don't know she is currently taking part in Strictly Come Dancing.

For me this lady is hugely entertaining and I thought last week's dance was very funny and very well done indeed.

BUT the lady cannot dance and is this a dancing competition, or an entertainment competition?

So should she do a John Sergeant and leave, or should she continue on and knock out other good Dancers . . . What do you think.

KittyB's Avatar Tricky one - I have to see it's the highlight of my week watching Anne and Anton, has me in stitches, and then Craig's comments afterwards too, priceless!

It is a dancing competition and on that basis I am sad to see people like Jimmy Mistry knocked out as he was a good dancer, not the best but certainly capable.

But on the other hand it is an entertainment programme too - and I'm certainly getting entertainment value for money with Anne Widdecombe in the show!

She seems to be having the time of her life, really enjoying the dancing, and why not? But I think her conscience will get the better of her sooner rather than later and she will bow out, just as John Seargent did. I can't imagine she'd be happy seeing the really good dancers getting knocked out while she stays and bumbles through another dance (however hilariously!).

Fennie's Avatar Obviously she and John Sergeant should get together - they'd make a fortune!Very Happy

Preseli Mags's Avatar I don't watch Strictly but I've seen the news about Anne Widdecombe. I think she should stay. Presumably the best/most popular dancer will win in the end.

It seems a similar situation to Wagner on XFactor. He can't sing, but he's fun. Both shows are about entertainment and column inches in newspapers. As Treyc showed on XFactor last week, if you're a good singer without something for the tabloids to write about you won't get through.

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar I haven't managed to watch Strictly yet, this time, although I am a fan. I can't stand AW for other reasons and I am not sure that reducing an elegant art form to slapstick entertainment - or whatever can be right. But, there you go, if it's what the audience want that's what we are going to get. Personally I would rather watch skill and elegance.
I read that she has said she will not leave voluntarily so she may win!

Toady's Avatar I think she should stick at it. There's loads about it on our local Radio Devon as she lived on Dartmoor.
Unlike X Factor though she is not keeping another 'unknown' talented person from progressing like b****y Wagner is.

Withy Brook's Avatar 1. She and Anton got a standing ovation from the audience at the end of their hilarious performance last Saturday.
2. When asked on Breakfast telly what he thought about it, Jimmy Mistry, after due consideration, said that he thought she should stay.
3. Even Len Goodman is still supporting her - or maybe Anton's clever choreography and acting ability
I believe that the 2 or 3 who are the best will get through anyway. It is sad that some quite good people go a week or two early but the entertainment value is terrific especially Craig's comments!

Salle de Bain's Avatar Did anyone hear Len Goodman's comment about Anne's dancing? Couldn't stop laughing at that!

Personally I don't like talent type programmes. I accidentally stumbled upon Strictly Come Dancing last weekend.....very funny indeed...and will HAVE to watch again this week now!

Wizzard's Avatar She should stay until the public no longer want to see her. This year the final say was left to the public, so if the public want to see her and spend money voting for her then so be it.
It is both a dancing competition and an entertainment programme. You could say that some of the fitter performers are turning it into a gymnastics competition rther than dancing! Anne is learning the steps - which is more than John Sergeant did, why should she leave just because she is not a slim and nimble lady?

Faith's Avatar I don't really watch it, but caught it a few times. Well said Wizzard, and at least her dress is decentLaughing

Snailbeachshepherdess's Avatar Well I just love it! All of it! Anne W is starting to look better....bring it on

Fairy Nuff's Avatar I don't really watch it much but over the last few series my vote would be going to the most improved dancer not necessarily the best one.
You really can't take someone with no training like Anne and put her againsed a much younger fitter person...especially when some of the contestants over the years have been dance trained at stage school, like Lititia Dean for example.

Inthemud's Avatar She should continue, she is the only reason I watch Strictly! Such a laugh and she is loving it!

Camilla's Avatar Go Widdy go.! I think she is fab, yes definately she should stay, she was asked to be in one of the line ups after all. Widdy is very entertaining, but she is also loving and enjoying the dancing. I don't think she should bow out of the show at all, she has as much right to be there just as much as the other performers.
