Cowart's Common Room

Hello to all the owls if they are still awake.!

Took Daisy over the woods for her daily walks, was met by a neighbour with her Spaniel, unfortunately neighbour could not control her dog, let go of the lead, and before you knew it......yep, a bust up.!Rolling Eyes happy to say Daisy is still in one piece and no wounds thankgoodness.

If you are having trouble sleeping then this is the place to be, hop aboard the perch for a natter. Hope to see you later owls before lamps out soon.

Night Night, & Sweet Dreams.

Oh, Camilla, you're here! I had just started up, thinking it was well past 1:40. But the time stamp says 12:40. I think someone has been playing with the server, and have sent Max to discover the problem.

Meanwhile, I'll direct any Owls to this place.

Camilla's Avatar Hello Bear, thank you kindly, have just left message on your owl post, think we owls can fly over to many a branch tonight.

PC clock says 00.54am here, think it is getting around to almost 6pm in your neck of the woods Bear.

Bear is back, having directed any errant Owls to this location on the Owl Perch.

Sorry to hear you've been feeling poorly. I hope you're all over that nastiness.

I'm all right for the shape I'm in. But I'm not prepared to say much past that.

I am, however, baffled about what's happened to the time.

Posted by: Rob-bear on 3rd Nov 2010 at 12:57AM

NO, NO, NO, Camilla. It's 7:00 p.m. in the land of the Bear, but 1:00 a.m. GMT.

I'm convinced somebody's been playing with clocks, or server, or something.

Max is investigating. Max makes quick work of things; I'm expecting a preliminary report any time now.

Camilla's Avatar Thank you Bear, earache has gone but it has left me with right ear that is totally deaf.

Nursey''s orders is that dear Bear does not overdo it so that he can keep energy and feel in the pink.

Oh Bear, thought you were 7 hours difference to here, now know you are only 6 hours difference. I think Frances is 5 hours in NY.

Camilla's Avatar Just going to post a card, back later.

Frances's Avatar Hello fellow owls.

The UK clocks went off summertime last weekend, and we in the States will "fall back" an hour this weekend. Meanwhile, our time zone gap is altered.

Lovely day off here, with time to get many errands done, and also to vote. Have the tv on now to follow the results being announced in various races across the country. Republicans will now take control of our House of Representatives. The Senate balance is still being decided.

Sorry about Daisy's altercation. It's a shame when dog owners do not act responsibly. We face that at the shop, particularly with a customer who has a pit bull.

Posted by: Frances on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:14AM

Sorry to have been distracted. Had to look after something for a few moments.

So, Frances, someone has been playing with the clocks. Not surprised. Max just reported on an anomaly, and was seeking instructions. I'll tell Max, "Well done!" but then say the change was mandated, and we should leave well enough alone. Max is so very understanding about these human anomalies. Smile

Glad you had a good day off, Frances; one would hate for you to have an off day. (We all have enough of those, don't we!)

I did not plan to watch the American election results. They would be just too hard on my nerves. My fear is that a Republican congress, even a Republican House, with a Democratic President, will leave America effectively ungovernable for at least two years.

My condolences!

Posted by: Rob-bear on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:40AM

How strange, Frances. Fancy that; allowing dogs in shops. You wouldn't get away with that up here! (Unless you were blind and had a guide dog.)

The only places I know of allowing animals in stores is at pet food stores, where the "end users" of the products are welcomed, and often given a treat at the check-out. At one store, they have a dog "in residence." The dog's job is to receive the mail from the Post Office's letter carrier, and take it to the back office for the boss. Quite the thing to see! New take on the "dogs vs postmen" scenario.

Camilla's Avatar Hello Frances, thank you.

Pleased to hear you had a lovely day off Frances, am sure that vote you popped in ballot box is vital for the country, saw a programme on TV last week on the Suffragettes, very interesting programme.

Lovely for you to have an extra hour in bed this weekend, will you be working at the weekend Frances?

Posted by: Camilla on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:46AM

Frances's Avatar Thank you, Bear.

I wish that the tv commentators could interview various lobbyists on election night, to hear how they viewed the results of their investments in various candidates!

My polling place is in a neighborhood school, and a great dividend of voting is being able to purchase some delicious baked goods from the fund-raising bake sale sponsored by the school's parent-teacher association. Yummmy!

Camilla's Avatar Love the idea of posty dogs, posty's will be out of a job, Bear.

Dogs are not allowed in stores here either, unless as you mention Bear that they are guide dogs with their owners.

Camilla, meant to say I was sorry to hear of Daisy's "dust up" with the spaniel. When there are joggers, or cyclists, or other dogs on the trail when we are out, I make Miss Sadie sit beside the path until the others have gone by. Makes things much easier. For everyone. She is actually very good at it, and quite patient. And I am relieved!

Posted by: Rob-bear on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:50AM

Frances's Avatar Oh yes, Camilla. I will be working over the weekend. Still, it's grand to have today and tomorrow off. I will pretend this is a weekend. xo

Posted by: Frances on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:50AM

Frances's Avatar Ahh, Bear, it sounds as if Sadie is very well trained. Bravo to all concerned.

Posted by: Frances on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:52AM

No chance of putting posties out of a job, Camilla. Dog has to stay inside the shop. Otherwise said dog would have to be on a lead. Dogs running loose in the community is severely frowned upon by the "City Fathers and Mothers." The fine would be in excess of 100.

Posted by: Rob-bear on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:53AM

Thanks, Frances. Sadie is coming along, but her manners aren't quite what I'd like to see. But still, she's just a big pup.

Posted by: Rob-bear on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:54AM

Frances, I trust you had a delicious snack while waiting to vote.

Since we also vote in a school gym, we should learn to be a little more civilized about things like that. I'll make some enquiries.

Posted by: Rob-bear on 3rd Nov 2010 at 01:57AM

Frances's Avatar Bear, it sounds to me as if Sadie is doing just fine ... guess she is not even into her adolescence yet.

I would love to linger her with you marvelous owl pals, but will have to log off now.

Perhaps we will be able to meet here again tomorrow. Nite, nite. xo

Camilla's Avatar Have PM you Frances.

Bear, I did stay back with Daisy and waited for neighbour to pass with her very big spaniel, who by the way is not trained at all, for some reason she thought she would just let go of the lead, of course she made a dash for Daisy, and Daisy..... she was not having any of it.!

Oh goodie Frances, pleased you have another free day tomorrow.

Hugs and pats for sweetie Miss Sadie.

Eyes are closing, off to bed now.

Night Night, and sweet dreams.

See you tomorrow.

Off to bed now, eyes are closing.

It's a bit early for bed, but I'm going to get an early start. I need to be at a meeting tomorrow at 7:30 a.m., ready for an epic ethical battle, related to the treatment of patients as they approach the ends of their lives.

I've written a paper on the subject for the meeting; that has been very emotionally draining. I find that, even though it's been five and a half years since I was disabled, I'm still very fragile, emotionally, and chronically depressed.

ON a lighter note, the weather has been grand, and the snow has melted. Which I why I've come out of hibernation. Delightful autumn ai and sunshine!
