Cowart's Common Room
Brambles

Uploaded Image
Once upon a time there was a castle where a princess had fallen asleep and where no-one had been for a 100 years. The brambles grew all around. The briars reached to the very chimneys and no-one was ever able to penetrate the dense and matted morass of thorns that blocked the roadway to the castle........

Re:
Frances's Avatar Fennie, something about the look of this bramble tangle reminds me of the woods where I used to play as a child.

Nowadays, I would love to paint a canvas with the bramble's tangle as its starting point.

Please do keep these wonderful photos coming! xo

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Actually not a castle at all but the old (1798) road out of the Mill that runs along the river. Just past where we were clearing is a large landslip (the road runs just above the river on a steep bank) and so this part of the road was disused. We are trying to turn it into a nature trail. Imagine the bullock carts trundling along with sacks of corn and barrels of flour to take up to the river at Figeac where they would be shipped out in barges to feed Napoleon's armies rampaging across Europe.

Re:
Salle de Bain's Avatar Wow...fantastic history Fennie. Is the river below the track navigable too? Would it have taken flat bottomed boats/barges in the past? Sounds like a wonderfully ancient landscape...lucky you.
