Cowart's Common Room
High on a windswept hill...

...there are frozen builders laying pipes, radon traps and all sorts of insulation. Was at work on Wednesday and sent the builder a text advising wooly thermals for Thursday and Friday as, although the weather promised to be fine, the wind would be up and things would be brrrr-y cold. The little innocents thought I was mad, had they not had nearly bahamian weather so far? Aw, such a sweet sight, builders huddling into their tee-shirts...by lunchtime hoodies had appeared and by the looks of things long johns are the order of the day today! >>>see comments for more update.

Re:
Irish Eyes's Avatar Things are progressing well, fingers crossed. I had hoped to have a few pics but someone [the photo fairy perhaps] has made off with my digital camera, and I spent last week end cursing like a trooper at my cell-phone, blasted thing went haywire, awol, and loopy all at once. YD bought me a new one during the week, and as soon as I get a chance will picture all possible.
The neighbours are amazed at the size, I don't think they realised what was involved, and most thought that the footings were the actual walls going in. That starts Monday PG! Fingers crossed again. I have become as superstitious as a cat. The female parade has stopped, it is down to two now; with the increase of young male workers on the site, these young ladies have become very dedicated to the nearby donkeys. The donkeys are positively glowing on all the apples that they are getting!
There has been a rethink on the central heating, due to costs, so now I am getting a Stanley Errigal range cooker, totally traditional in style and I love it. Hope to put a pic of it up here for you all to see. I downloaded it from the brochure, so the surrounds will not be mine.
More news as and when...Uploaded Image

Re:
Frances's Avatar Irish Eyes,

I love your wardrobing advice to your t-shirted builders. Bet that they are going to have a fine time working on your home, and that your fan club is going to grow as the weeks go by.

That traditional cooker seems a very wise choice.

Please do get your camera back and show more photos of the project. xo

Re:
Milla's Avatar Exciting stuff, IE. Do find a means to take photos ASAP - you always think you'll remember the stages but there's a real pleasure in looking back when all is new at the chaos you went through to get there.

Re:
Salle de Bain's Avatar Very exciting stuff indeed IE...I share in the above envy!!
Our builders/tradesmen were practically part of the family by the time we finished building...actually missed them when they went. I counted 25 different trades people working here at one time. We were going to have a BBQ for them all at the end...a kind of celebration. It never materialised in the end as lots of them worked all over the country, so we couldn't get them all together at one time.
Love the range...look forward to more picturesVery Happy
