Cowart's Common Room
Do you ever

I am having an admin and pay bills morning, and catching up on lists and reminders. Do you ever write down something on a list and then come back to it, to wonder What the heck does that mean. I am staring aimlessly at "Contact for tins" and have absolutely no idea what it meansRolling Eyes The other thing that drives me mad is random telephone numbers on bits of paper, that you're afraid to throw out just in case you remember. Do you have petty irritants like this?

Re:
Irish Eyes's Avatar Morning Tiggy, I see we are about the same business...have just spent an unprofitable 20 minutes working out who the heck 08XXXXXXXX is, plumber or friends new number. I am quite sure I never met Amelia whoever the heck she is, but she assures me, by text, by text that she will cover my armchairs etc., for a wonderfully low price.

It took me ten minutes to figure out that she must have gotten my number from a pal who thought I wanted new slip covers...said pal will get a gentle rocket about giving out my number without my permission...only consolation being that said pal beats the FBI for researching anyone she gets to do any work for her.

I have a random box where all bits go for hopeful recognition sometime before the next millenium. Some hope! Now what the heck is 4 X 2 under it???? Under what...oh here! I give up!

Re:
Frances's Avatar I have a habit of writing quick notes on the backs of envelopes that once held junk mail. The envelopes become my note pads. Many times I will have a bit of a struggle to remember the relevance of a particularly cryptic note.

Re:
Ivy's Avatar OH always writes down phone numbers without names and it drives me round the bend! I never not understand my own notes but them I am a Capricorn.
I am known to write long shopping lists forgetting them at home and then buying all that was on them. (doesn't work if I haven't written down what I want/need) So maybe just making notes helps me to remember even if I don't understand what I wrote down I will remember what it was meant to be.

Re:
CalicoKate's Avatar Ivy I'm like you with lists, rarely take one with me but rarely forget anything on them. I can also visualise the blackboard in the kitchen on which I write down anything I run out of at the time of doing it or thinking about it. I'm very proud of this accomplishment. Wink Of course, if I haven't written it down then it just falls out of my ears on to the pillow over night. Which is what happened to a great plot line for a short story for my first OU assignment I was thinking about just before going to sleep............... I'll have to check down the edge of the mattress where all my hankies end up to see if I can rescue just a little bit!!Rolling Eyes
Other than that notes aren't too bad. B never writes things down - don't know if that makes it worse or better!

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar I make lists to get the lists out of my head to stop me worrying about forgetting something . . . But yes I look at them and think WHAT . . . Yes to pieces of paper with just phone numbers on, not to mention illegible entries in my diary leaving no clue as to where I should be and why, also intelligible phone messages for HS and emails that when read back make sense to me. . . .but not to whoever I am sending them to Rolling Eyes need I go on . . .

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Oh CK always always write down plots or ideas before you go to be and even get up in the middle of the night to jot things down because you will NOT remember them in the morning. I know that from years of thinking yeah I can remember that . . .Rolling Eyes

Re:
Tiggywinkle's Avatar Glad to see I'm not the only one. I live by lists, otherwise I wouldn't get as much done. I put "Contact for tins" on the back boiler, and 3 hours later as I was driving to the Bank it came to me. I tidied my baking cupboard the other day, and to ulitize space, I used 2 rectalgular biscuit tins for extracts, colourings, Rosewater, glycerine, sprinklers, tartaric acid, pectin, Yeast, and all those fiddly bits that fall out on top of you. I thought it would be nice to co-ordinate the tins by covering them in a pretty contact. So there you go. It can be carried forward now.Laughing
