Cowart's Common Room
Is it too early for an owl landing?

I am taking advantage of having had a day off to set up the owl post, even if it might be a bit early.

Beautiful day in New York, and I have done lots of errands, and am delighted not to have to think about errands for at least a few more days.

I finished the crocheted scarf I was making and have delivered it. The recipient will see it tomorrow, and it will be a surprise.

While crocheting I was able to keep one eye on some tv coverage of the US Open Tennis matches. Might actually have to see if I can return to that television screen in a little while...Federer vs Soderling. It was very windy on the courts this afternoon, so I hope things will have calmed down by now. Strong winds put a third adversary on the court and really keep these fine players from showing their best.

Okay... where are you owls?

Not an Owl, but a Bear. Is that Bear-able at this location? If not, Owl leave.

I know the sport used to be called tennis. But with inflation, its probably tewntynis now.

Glad you had a chance to do something different today. You've been working a lot of long days recently. A crocheted gift for a friend and a tennis gift for yourself, plus some errands done. Impressive!

I see Tiggywinkle circling the skool.

How are Tigger and Kevin doing these days?

And are things getting into place for your Australian adventure?

Frances's Avatar Bear, it's grand to see you!

I had some dishwashing duties to take care of.

Yes, there have been some long days. The next late one will be this Friday, also known as, Fashion's Night Out.

This is an evening when shops stay open extra late to try to promote Fashion. This is the week of the year when the Big Designers have their fall fashion shows. Back in 2001, this week was suddenly, tragically, interrupted by the explosions at the World Trade Centers.

So...last year some fashion big wigs found a way to sort of get some good energy back to the week.

I hope that I can sleep very late on the morning of Sept. 10, so that I will still be a bit awake by the time we are able to close the shop around 10:30 pm. We are to host some sort of DJ class. Could be fun, could be awful.

Tiggywinkle's Avatar You are in good form tonight BearLaughing I bet your friend will love her scarf. Just on my way to bed. Busy day making green tomato Chutney, some baking for a lunch I'm having and Muffin's Party on Saturday, and still sewing away. Early start at 7 a.m. for breakfasts for guests. Night, and hello to later owls.

Hi, again Frances. Just finished replying to your PM.

It's been a funny day. Draggy this morning; major meeting at the University this afternoon, where I was able to steer the process to an important consensus, and help us get on with our work. Small contribution from the "outsider" who is working with a group of long-tenured faculty. Some days I think working with faculty is more difficult that trying to herd cats. Fortunately, this group is made up of really good people, so it's not very difficult to work with them.

Glad to hear from your world, Tiggy.

Really, is there still a 7:00 o'clock in the morning? I thought someone was smart enough to banish that.

NO sign of Camilla tonight. Is she at "loose ends," as in bad connection? I hope she's not ill.

Anyhow, I need to rest my back a bit. So I'll log out, and flake out. (Not that I'm flaky, you understand!)

Sleep well, good Owls.

Frances's Avatar Best wishes to you Tiggy. I can see that you have had a very full day. Bet the sewing is coming along beautifully. Glad that you have found a way to turn those green tomatoes into gold!

7 am will be in your neighborhood soon!

Bear, I also use that expression about herding really does describe certain situations very well.

Yes...where is dear Camilla?

P.S., Frances: This Friday evening "when shops stay open extra late to try to promote Fashion." I didn't think fashion needed to be promoted in New York, of all places. Strikes me as being a bit like carrying coal to Newcastle.

But what does a Bear know about things fashionable?

To conclude, "What does a Bear know about things fashionable? "

For Bears, fur coats are always fashionable.

But NOT Bear rugs!

Posted by: Rob-bear on 9th Sep 2010 at 01:35AM

Frances's Avatar No, definitely not a bear rug!

Bear, I have left you yet another pm, and now reluctantly am going to beg off. I have a few things to take care of before tomorrow.

Let's hope for a super full owl perch then.

Nite, nite.
