Cowart's Common Room

Hello to the owls that may still be awake.!

Thank you kindly Frances for posting the owl post on Monday evening, this little owl was a tad under the weather.

Very cold here on the very first early hours of a brand new September day, autumn is just around the corner.!

Hope your Bank Holiday weekend was fun, even though I know sadly some folk had to work through it.

Kettle is on the boil for a cuppa, just going to take a tour, see you later if there are any owls nesting on this perch.

If you can't sleep and there are others on line then have a natter here.

Night Night, & Sweet Dreams.

Frances's Avatar Good evening to you, Camilla, and to any other owls who might turn up.

Great to read that you are feeling better. I had the day off and got the laundry and errands done, and a bit of rest.

Then, since this was the day that my manager colleague returned from her holiday, I went down to the shop to have a bit of catch up this evening.

Tonight's pasta supper is now in front of me, glass of chardonnay off to the side.

Camilla's Avatar Good Evening Frances, thank you.

Pleased to hear on your day off you were able to catch up with laundry, and errands, think that nap was much needed though Frances. Hoping on your next free days you will be able to catch up on your beautiful crochet, love it's lacey patterns.

Enjoy your supper Frances, love chardonnay any time.!

Frances's Avatar Thanks, Camilla.

Wonder where the rest of the owls are tonight?

I know that Puffin was here last night, and I do want to let her know that I hope that Hurricane Earl does no harm to either my city or hers as "he" makes his way up the Atlantic coast.

It was good that I did go downtown to the shop this afternoon, because the shop was quite busy in the last two hours. Extra hand is always welcome.

What is happening now in your garden? What goes on there at the end of summer?

Joking now ... did you go to the Notting Hill Carnival? xo

Camilla's Avatar The perch does seem very quiet lately Frances, earlier on I heard a low flying enormous areoplane go over, so loud and low did have me a tad worried.!

Camilla's Avatar Ha, no Frances, no Notting Hill Carnival, but do remember those younger days with fancy costumes of bright colours, and the music.

Have PM Puffin, hope that Hurrican Earl stays away from hers, so too NY Frances.

Am sure your staff were pleased of those extra hands Frances, good to hear sales are going well.

Garden is looking not so good because of much rain last week with winds. Hedging needs doing but waiting for Willouby lookalike (sense and sensibility) gardener to help out, he is returning from trip abroad. I am hoping to catch up with the lawns tomorrow. Petunia's and geraniums still flowering, so too some of the roses. Japanese Anemonies in pink and white still billowing, and the crysanthimums have begun to burst out.

Frances's Avatar Ooooh, hoping that plane has landed where it was supposed to.

My city street is very quiet, but is perpendicular to Broadway, which is not only the legendary place of theatre...all that is around Times Square, but also a major three lane motor artery that diagonally spans Manhattan, north to south and back again. Well, this makes it the route of choice for emergency vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks, etc.

Late at night I can always hear the sirens atop any of those vehicles, and always hope that they just keep moving past my corner.

Back in September 2001, the sirens continued all day long. We are coming up to that day that I will never forget.

Don't mean to take the owl perch to a heavy level. Forgive me?

Camilla's Avatar Did you see Milla's fabby recipe for tom soup, think I will give it a go at the weekend, sounds yummy.

Frances's Avatar Camilla, your garden sounds quite beautiful for this transitional time of year.

There are still some roses bravely blooming in front of a beautiful brownstone house on my street. These roses have been through several stages of vast heat and cooling respite over this summer. They are well cared for, and still just want to produce some more blooms.

Camilla's Avatar This reminds me of when I lived near Baker St in London, we owned the whole of the basement downstairs, so too first upper floors.... one night a Jag was being pursued by police car and Jag crashed into railings to the part of the basement.

No need to apologise Frances, it was the most major tragedy, think it will stay in the memories of New Yorkers for ever, so too folk around the world, so many people loss of life and their families.

Camilla's Avatar Would love to know the variety of that rose Frances, we have a New Dawn here which is a repeat flowering one, has been flowering since early summer.

Love the sound of a brownstone house.

Camilla's Avatar Hurricane is heading towards the Carribean at a rate of 74 miles per hour, just heard on local news. Do hope it stays away from our friends here on the site.
