Cowart's Common Room
Just setting up a temporary perch, on the look out for other owls...

Great to have this day off, from work, able to meander through the past hours since I woke up.

Hot here. Not a chance, though of an air cleansing thunderstorm, due to various barometric bits and pieces.

I do hope that other owls will get here tonight. Continuing to wonder about Rob-Bear. Hoping that Camilla is just having some of those server problems.

Camilla, I did get to see some of Roger Federer on tv today, inbetween the coverage of that historic never to end match. I am so glad that Mr Federer emerged winner, but a bit concerned about the length of his match. Also very concerned about the costume worn by his opponent.

My wonderful library will be closing after July 4 for a few weeks for a renovation. So...that wonderful library is allowing us members the opportunity to just load up on books, without the need to return them before the reno is done. I went to the stacks today, riding the little cage elevator, and took home lots of aged, though first edition, classic British mystery novels I was introduced to by reading PD James's book about Detective Fiction. Something great about having those musty books see the sunshine.

I also checked out Three Delays, by Charlie Smith. Hoping that you all might also be able to find this book. It was well reviewed in the Sunday book section of the New York Times. Mr Parker's wife is a friend. The book is dedicated to her.

Now... where are those owls?

Camilla's Avatar Hello Frances,

Thank you kindly for setting up this perch for us owls to land on.

Pleased to hear you were able to have a relaxing day off from work Frances, it also has been soooo hot here too, hardly a breath of that cool easterly breeze I would have liked.

Oh hope Bear is alright? My server connections fine Frances but my son did say when he logged on earlier in the day that he thought my PC was way too slow.

Yippee.... England 1 in soccer.! watched some of that tennis match, phew..... longest match on record - 59-59 into the records books. Good to see Federer emerge as that winner Frances.

I am not too mad on Detective Fiction, but last year a friend also introduced me to PD JAMES, wonderful writer. Recently on TV was the Ladykillers a documentary of the said title introduced by the Martina Cole the crime writer. She has sold worldwide sales over 10 million in UK alone. Her tenth novel, The Know spent seven weeks on The Sunday Times hardback best sellers list.

Thanks for the info on Charlie Smith Frances, another for reserve at my library.

Frances's Avatar Camilla, I love that picture of the big basket and the sporty blue car. Ahh, for another day off tomorrow.

Not to be. Back to work. The June clearance sale starts tomorrow, and I do hope that the staff have got it all properly prepared. (I have decided to do lots of delegating.)

USA also won in the World Cup today.

Where oh where is Bear?

The mozzies here are driving me mad.!

Best of luck with the June sale clearance, know that you will be doing a great job.!

Well done to the USA for winning the World Cup, on Sunday it will be England playing again...... wish I knew that score.

Has Bear been poorly Frances?

Frances's Avatar Ahhh, Camilla, that's an intriguing question about my summer vacation.

I have to wait a bit for the upcoming transition to actually see what days may be open for some days off.

Meanwhile, I will focus on the notion of having time off in late October, early November.

FitzBlitz's Avatar Good evening Frances and Camilla! It was very hot here as well. Too hot to take Gatsby on our regular walk after I get off work. We do not get very far before he plops down on the neighbor's yard.
Today was my second to last day at my current job and I had to tell my favorite person how much I was going to miss them Sad Now, I am just counting down the hours that I have left.... 7:30am til noon!!! And I must say... as soon as the clock strikes 12- the biggest grin will sweep across my faceVery Happy
I like reading Detective fiction - I will have to check out the ones you two have mentioned. Perhaps now that my commute to and from work will be quite less troublesome... I mwill have the oppertunity to pick up a good book!
Hope you both are having a great evening!

Frances's Avatar FB, nice to see you here on this very hot evening.

The detective books I checked out from the library today are very old first editions ... from the 1940's. The authors are Gladys Mitchell, Edmund Crispin and Cyril Hare. What names! The last two were noms de plume.

I also checked out Ian McEwan's Solar.

And...I have got our lovely Chris Stoval's Turning the Tide waiting for a perfect reading time. I don't want to take Chris's book on the subway train.

Too hot to stay here much longer. Off to sleep soon.

Nite, nite. xo
