Cowart's Common Room

Today is Thursday, May 27, 2010.

Irish Eyes got the Bear going yesterday, with a comment about bikkies. She wouldn't eat unless they were gluten-free.

Bear should have known better about this one. Celiac Disease is prevalent today; I've heard of a study which suggests that up to 70 per cent of people may have some sensitivity to gluten and related products (but not necessarily full-blown Celiac Disease). Bear even has some sensitivity of gluten, and tries to avoid wheat, barley, and rye products, while picking rice products.

So, why no tin for the people who want gluten-free? Well, Bear simply isn't bright enough to have put the pieces together. (Yeah; that's the way the bikkie crumbles.)

So, now we have a third tin in the Common Room. The rectangular tins are for "regular" goodies normally wheat-based. The octagonal tin is for gluten free products. I'm starting with home-made oatmeal biscuits this morning. They're supposed to be gluten free, and as far as I know, they are. If you've got a recipe for a gluten-free product, please pass it on. Bear would appreciate your assistance; others might be helped, too. (We're a community; we help each other.)

Today's tea is Darjeeling; and there are honey-nut clusters in the regular tins. They may be gluten free, too (though I never thought about that). It's just that Bears like honey and nuts.

Hope you have a grand day!

Preseli Mags's Avatar Good morning Bear... I am fine with wheat, rye and oats, but have to be careful with the amount of fat I eat. Perhaps just a small (virtual) biscuit for me.

Have a good day everyone!
