Cowart's Common Room

Today is Monday, May 24, 2010.

In Canada, May 24 (or the Monday before it) is Victoria Day in honour of Queen Victoria Canada's first queen. (May 24th was her birthday.) It is also the "official" birthday of the reigning monarch. Lots of good stuff: 21-gun salutes in all the provincial capitals at noon (likewise in Ottawa, the national capital), fireworks in the evening, partying of all manner. Oh, and did I mention it is a statutory holiday? Yup a day off (for most folks). But when you're retired, a day pretty much like all the others. Except for the fireworks, which (I think) will be downtown, and to which we may take the grandchildren.

Quiet day at skool yesterday. But not quiet enough to keep Mr. Woozle from having an adventure with a hive of bees! (A very different experience from Winnie the Pooh's adventure really mis-adventure with bees!) And Peterwf tracked down a Tree Creeper. This is usually the major weekend for bird migration in Bear's land, but the cold weather and (almost) continual rain of the past few days have spoiled that show. Sad

What have been your latest adventures with furry or feathered friends? Do you have any pictures?

Irish breakfast tea in the common Room for the early risers. Some Brown Scones in the biscuit tins. (Can't have biscuits all the time, can we?)

Hope you have a grand day!

Faith's Avatar Prefer brown scones to biscuits any day Bear - hope there is Irish butter to go with the Irish tea... or rather to go with the scones!Laughing

I expect it was quiet at skool yesterday as such a beautiful day in the UK - everyone out and about enjoying it.

As to latest adventures with furry/feathered friends, not much to report here but I am just about to put a furry pic up for pic of the day.

Have a good day intriguing Bear, and thanks for the PM!

Westerwitch's Avatar Yum to the brown scones especially warmed with butter on Very Happy

Your temperatures really are all over the place aren't they bear - although ours seem pretty up and down as well.

Westerwitch's Avatar Oh and interesting that you still celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday and have a public holiday and we don't!

Dancing Dog's Avatar Thank you for the tea and scones, don't mind if I do.

Here are a couple of photos. A Goldfinch on our feeder, and Sunny our No. 1 billy goat. We've also been blessed with some fine weather.

WW are these photos too large? I reduced them in size but maybe I should reduce them further.

Preseli Mags's Avatar I commented earlier today, but it doesn't seem to be here Rolling Eyes (I bet I didn't press the 'comment' button. It's been one of those days!) Thanks for the Irish tea Bear, and the scones. I enjoyed those earlier. I love the photos Dancing Dog - especially the goat. We used to have Toggenburgs - can I just see a couple in the background?
