Cowart's Common Room
GOOD MORNING!

Today is Sunday, May 23, 2010.

In the Christian calendar, this is Pentecost or Whitsunday. It focuses on the empowerment of Jesus disciples after his resurrection and ascension to heaven. It is also called "The Birthday of the Church." In congregations I have served in the past, we've had helium-filed balloons in the sanctuary (in reddish hues), to brighten up the place, and symbolizing the fire that appeared that day.

In other parts of the world floods in China, more attacks in Afghanistan, continuing instability in Pakistan, Thailand, Ethiopia and Somalia, and many other places. Sigh. Sad

In the land of the Bear, rain yesterday, rain today, and more later in the week. No reports about anyone getting instructions on building a second Ark. Whew! Smile

Garden party season in Britain, and elsewhere. Camilla has a grand one yesterday at her place with her family. A dying tradition, that. Bear cannot even get our garden ready for such a party. The land here, which used to be river bottom, is just so silty, it is hard to get anything to grow. Except some very hearty perennials which squeeze everything else out. Sad

In the Common Room, Ceylon tea, and cashew cookies. (Yes, I know; they're a bit different but we'd hardly want digestives every day.) For those of you with potential nut allergies, oatmeal cookies in the other tin.

Hope you have a grand day!

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Good morning Bear . . . after a glorious day yesterday it is pouring with rain today - which is a shame as HS is going to a British Institute of Professional Photographers day today at a posh hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond and they were all hoping for good weather so that they could go out on the decking Evil or Very Mad Today HS stands down as chairman of the Scottish region of the BIPP . . . whoop whoop . . . not been the easiest of jobs.
