Cowart's Common Room
Isn't the internet amazing?

Muffin (6) is wild into skipping at the moment. Never stops practicing. Gets Tigger to walk her to school and skips the whole way.I had forgotten many of the Skipping and Hand Clapping Rhymes, but found the one I was looking for on the net. See comment. Also found how to do Hand Shadows on a wall. Now must look up Rhymes for playing with 2 balls. A great trip down memory lane for me, and great fun teaching her.

Re:
Dancing Dog's Avatar Hand shadows. Very Happy There is a room in the Boston Science Museum that captures shadows. It takes a photo and your shadow stays on the wall - two adults spent 45 minutes elbowing small children out of the way, leaping in the air, making silly poses! Disgraceful behavior Twisted Evil The Internet is indeed fantastic.

Re:
Tiggywinkle's Avatar Forgot to post the rhyme. I loved this one when I was little.
Three, six, nine,
The goose drank wine,
The monkey chewed tobacco on the street care line,
The line broke,
The monkey got choked,
And they all went to heaven in a little row boat.

Have you any more?

Re:
Faith's Avatar I can't think of a skipping rhyme but we used to line up and do a rhyme with actions, and I can only remember this bit:

See the Dandelions showing their knees (pull skirt above knees),
See the Beauties doing a striptease (do a little shimmy)
So keep the sunny side up, up!
And the other side blue, blue!

(this was in the 60's)

DD, your one I used to do with fingers for babies

Two little dickie birds sitting on a wall (hold up index finger of each hand)
One named Peter one named Paul (wiggle finger as you name it.
Fly away Peter (put hand behind back)
Fly away Paul ( " )
Come back Peter (bring hand back)
Come back Paul ( " )

My girls used to know lots of clapping rhymes but my mind has gone blank

One used to have in it 'My boyfriends name is ..... He comes from ........' but I just can't remember any of it.

Re:
Tiggywinkle's Avatar Faith, I think every baby loves 2 little dickey birds. I think it is the first rhyme all my mine learned as soon as they were old enough. I used to love watching the little eyes following the movements.

I love to see children playing all the old fashioned games as children should, and they have the same appeal, and good for teaching social skills. I'm going up to Muffin now to teach her the new rhyme- I'm a crazy grandmother just a child at heart.Rolling Eyes
