Cowart's Common Room

Today is Thursday, May 20, 2010.

Just finished a column for a national agricultural newspaper. I've known for months that it was due. But could I think of a topic? More important a good topic? No. Sad

I ended up writing about the amount of paper work in our lives. Late this summer, Bear will reach the "age of certifiable decrepitude" 65 years. Meaning "retirement." Meaning pensions. Meaning you have to fill in a lot of paper work (if you want to collect your pensions). You can see the piece after it's printed next week. I'll post in on my blog "Bears Noting." I want to be fair with my publisher giving the paper first rights to my column. After that, well, it is my intellectual property. Which means I get to share it with whomever (or is it "whoever"?).

The one thing about this daily "Good Morning!" contribution is that it helps to keep my mind sharp sharp as a rubber hose. Rolling Eyes How do you improve your skill as a writer? By writing. Regularly. That's why we have so many good writers at skool.

Glad that PM's crew was in better shape this morning than last night. However, Her Ladyship, the Headmistress, has been having an unhappy time something akin to the "Anti-Midas Touch" (which I'll explain here some day).

In the Bear's world rain today. In fact, rain through Sunday. Hot and humid. Reminds me of Toronto, where I grew up. Or perhaps Bangkok, where fires burn.

Tea this morning is Assam. Vanilla ice-cream wafers in the biscuit tins. (Don't ask me why I picked them up when I was shopping; some days I even puzzle myself.)

Hope you have a grand day!

Faith's Avatar 65 years young, Bear! I didnt know your age and you write 'younger'. I like to read your morning contribution here, thank you. Vanilla flavoured ice-cream wafers? I don't think we have them here in the UK - mind you I havent looked. Can we have ice-cream with them or is it too early?

Faith, if you want ice cream, and you know where to get some, go right ahead. Have as much as you want!

And, I must confess, the age thing is a bit of a puzzle. I'm actually 64 going on 46. Laughing

The best thing about numbers is that you can let other people look after them or worry about them. As I do. Very Happy Rolling Eyes

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Well, much as I hate to contradict Faith, I think you have given the impression that you are a much older Bear. Especially since I have passed the "age of certifiable decrepitude" some time ago.
Perhaps its the words of wisdom that you frequently give us, or perhaps, forgive me here, it's your understandable mentioning of your creaking joints and the pain they give you.
I have already said in an earlier post that I enjoy your morning ramblings - er - writing full of sharp wit and information. Keep up the good work! You have years to go yet.
Thanks for the tea and wafers.

Fennie's Avatar Thanks Bear. Look forward to reading your column. Age creeps up on all of us faster than we like to admit and the busier we are the faster it creeps - on the other hand, those that seem to do nothing seem to age mentally and physically very fast indeed. As always there's a happy medium.

Westerwitch's Avatar Age is now confiscated and we are exactly what age we feel.

Grrrrr anti midas touch . . . very frustrating when everything you do seems to go wrong makes youEvil or Very MadEvil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad but it never lasts . . . it wouldn't dare - revs chainsaw.
